Conflict with a work colleague - opinions please

Bezzawezza (Elite) posted this on Tuesday, 9th February 2010, 20:02

Am I being too sensitive here?

A work colleague recently enquired about buying an electrical item from me which at the time I was unsure if I wanted to sell. Having thought about it a little I decided that it was not being used in my house and surplus to requirements so the following day I offered it to him for £50. He then responded with "sounds dodgy to me" and "whats wrong with it". Despite my repeated insistence that nothing was wrong with it and I was only trying to do him a favour he maintained, rather publicly, that it sounded dodgy and too cheap and there must be something wrong with it. Therefore I was essentially trying to con him out of £50.

Am I right to be offended by this? I am upset that he thinks so little of me to jump to this conclusion with no evidence or reason and have been quiet towards him lately as feel I bit stabbed in the back. Its got to the point now where he has noticed I am quiet towards him and starting to question why (he seems to be of the opinion its okay to publicly question a persons integrity and morals without reason). I really dislike confrontation especially with an audience (the rest of the office) but at the same time feel very strongly about this.

Opinions please

Tell him. Get it off your chest.

Sounds like a rude c*** to me.

Next time he asks why you`re quiet towards him, tell him, Very Publicly, that he publicly humiliated you and accused you of trying to con him out of £50. You were trying to do him a favour by selling him something he wanted for a bargain price and he more or less threw it back in your face. If he doesn`t still realise the error of his ways then stuff him, and if he gets shirty, take it further with management.

Cheers guys. I was beginning to think that I was just being overly sensitive but i`m gonna stand my ground. I just wanted a second opinion from people outside of the situation to confirm I had a right to be annoyed

If it was such a good price, DO NOT sell it to him.

We will pay the price but we will not count the cost..

I won`t be selling it to him now no. I`m not that desperate for £50. This brings with it it`s own set of problems though as I now leave myself open to "it must have been dodgy as he won`t sell it now" type comments. Grrrrrrr
