"Service not included"....!!

Hulk Smash! (Elite) posted this on Wednesday, 7th December 2005, 10:28

I was in Pizza Hut the other day (mmmm..pizza....) and when the bill/receipt came, it said at the bottom "service not included". Isn`t this just like saying "please tip your waiter" or something!? Should I have tipped her? All she did was bring over a glass of Pepsi and a pizza - isn`t that what they get paid for?? :/

What really gets my back up is the local Dexters (burger chain), they don`t even ask if you want service included, just slap it on the bill and expect you to pay.

Do you know what this is? Its the world`s smallest violin playing just for the waitresses.......I don`t tip because society says I have to. All right, if someone deserves a tip, if they really put forth an effort, I`ll give them something a little something extra. But this tipping automatically, it`s for the birds. As far as I`m concerned, they`re just doing their job.......

Im with Mr Pink on this one...you work a job..you get paid a wage, why do you expect to be given extra? if your job pays s***ty wages ..leave and get another better paid job, or ask your boss for a raise. Lots of people do badly paid jobs, but most dont have the `luck` to be doing one thats deemed as tip worthy why should the girl who carries a glass of coke and a pizza to a table be worthy of a tip when the girl who packs all your shopping for you in a supermarket isnt? This adding tips onto a bill is bulls*** too, if they want extra just add a few pence onto each item on the menu..If a pizza is £10 I pay £10..I dont pay £10 and a quid tip..Im sorry but I dont buy that, folks say `oh but its hard work and they dont get paid a lot`...they make minimum wage and with all the tips from people taking pity on the `low paid waitress` probably take home more than a lot of us.... :/

When in the US\Canada I always leave about $5 tip. Over here just like the majority of waiters I really can`t be arsed.

I quite like the Helpdesk people in a benevolent (as opposed to malevolent) way as they do some valuable work in preventing us being inundated by every halfwit who can work a phone.

Here in the US I always leave 15 to 20% tip. Waiters/waitresses hardly get paid anything and rely on tips for their income. I won`t leave a tip if the service was appalling and that is the point. Someone is serving you and if they do a good job they should be rewarded. I tip my hairdresser as well because I just believe good service should be rewarded just as if I do a good job at work and I get a bonus then I feel rewarded for my efforts. If people don`t tip good service, good service will no longer exist, which is why I truly believe the service sector in America is second to none. Since I arrived in the USA I have had impeccable service and once I made a tiny comment that my fries were a bit cold and they made my main course complimentary, unbelieveable!

Already added tip to a bill is a bit cheeky and is very uncommon in America and American companies. When I was living in the UK this annoyed me as well, especially if the service was poor as I do not want to pay for something that was not up to standard.

At christmas back in the UK we always give the dustman, postman and milkman money for christmas just to say thank you, a tip is just a nice way to say thank you as well, and you only say thank you when you are grateful.

I bet these "tips included in bills" never make there way into the waiter/waitresses pockets, either that pr the get percentage of it.

I Deliver for a takeaway for extra cash and i never ever expect a tip from the customers. I`m paid to deliver there meal and that is what i do. Most of the customers give me a tip which is great but i never ever expect it.

Craziness, sort of like unofficial tax

that`s a fact in many restaurants but you don`t go there again!

I`m happy to say that for pretty much all the meals I`ve enjoyed this year(apart froma nameless hotel in Madrid where they mistook bustling about for service) have had great service included and i`m ok with tipping that.

I would prefer it though just to pay for a meal and expect that the staff are well paid-as they should be.

Don`t believe in tipping myself. Loads of companies just use it as a tool to pay their staff a pittance (ie. yes I know we`re paying you hardly anything but you`ll get tips with it).

If nobody tipped they`d be forced to pay their staff a decent wage as they`d have nobody wanting to work for them. By tipping you`re actually just paying the company a bit more than you should do in my opinion.

Yea, most waiter jobs are minimum wage, they rely on tips.
Glad they don`t have that here! :)
