Buying a new car - Toyota - how much can you expect to get knocked off the price?

My sister is buying a new RAV4 XT3 and she is just prepared to pay the book price the garage has given her! Am I wrong in thinking that she should be able to haggle down the price by at least 5%? She`s also getting full leather and chrome side skirts as extras putting the price upto 21.4k - again shouldn`t she be able to haggle over these?

Has anyone got any advice on buying a new car? Mine was buy one that is a year old as you lose so much when you buy a new car but she was having none of it!

Although she`s wrong to pay book price,she shouldn`t expect to get much off a RAV4.
They sell without any problem at all,new or used.
If they won`t give her money off,push for free extras or free couple of services.
I`ll give you a good tip.
Go into www.whatcar.co.uk
Click on new car prices,then type in Toyota RAV4.
They will give you the list price and a `target price`.
That is the price at which they have found a dealer willing to sell one.
It`s a very good haggling tool. ;)

Whatcar`s `targetprices` suggest that the most she can expect to get knocked off the list price is around a grand.
Not a huge sum,but still worth haggling over.
Nice car,by the way. 8)
I wanted to get one for the wife but they were slightly too expensive.
She chose a Honda HR-V instead.
Great car. :D

You could try the import dealers on the internet, but you will not get more than 10% - 15% off the list price, and you may encounter risk / problems that make it not worth the hastle.

Another thing to consider is the devaluation on this jeep, 52% back after 3 years, so thats a loss of £10k, or over £3.3k a year.

Why not consider personel leasing if your buying a car above £20k.

It works out a lot cheaper now than privare buying and the car is serviced, insured and no grief if damaged, as you get another.

Downside is: car has to be returned to hirer after the lease.

52% back after 3 years is extremely good.
That`s Audi levels of return.
Demand is also high for used RAV4`s.
A very safe purchase.

There`s one thing that puts me off this and it`s the pettiness of the leasing companies when you come to returning the car.
I have lots of experience with this with my company and we`re currently in the process of returning two polos and an A4.
They will always state they make allowances for `fair wear and tear` but,in reality,they will gripe and moan about the slightest little thing.
They practically want them back in showroom condition and will always always find something to charge you for.
Christ,and here`s a beauty,they once invoiced us £300 for a "missing remote central locking key" for a Saab that didn`t have remote central locking ! :/
We`ve also had cars valeted prior to being collected and their collecting agent will mark the condition as `dirty` on their report. :(
It`s not restricted to one company either.
We`ve used dozens over the years.
They`re all the same.They want the cars back in far better condition than a dealer would expect if you were trading it in,for example.
We always have to fight for a compromise in the final bill.
It`s certainly not the `hand it back with a smile and zero stress` routine they make it out to be. :(

Commercial vehicle leasing is different 42%er.
We rarely get a problem there.
By their very nature commercial vehicles cannot possibly avoid being scratched,dented,bashed and thrashed.

I was talking about cars.

You could try the internet dealers who source from the UK:

www.autobytel.co.uk/
www.virgincars.com/
www.jamjar.com

Get a price online including all the options you want and take it to the main dealer. Tell them you want them to beat it.
