American Wedding - opinions??

Ben Franklin (Reviewer) posted this on Sunday, 10th August 2003, 15:44

Saw this yesterday, and it is definitely on par with the original, if not better. Thankfully its not a repeat of the very poor American Pie 2, and is instead very refreshing - showing that there was still more to be had out of the "teen movie" genre.

To be honest, I wasn`t looking forward to this film, the trailers all seemed pretty ordinary; the opening "proposal" scene just isn`t really very funny. But the film completely took me by suprise, and I haven`t laughed so much in ages. I think the reason the trailers seem a bit lame is because there`s not much of the film they could show before the watershed! :)

Its good that characters like Chris Klein and Tara Reid weren`t roped in for this sequel, the film is far better because of it. The character of Finch became a little tedious in American Pie 2, but has far less of his upper class eccentricity in this one - he even gets a few laughs when playing Stiffler at his own game (I won`t give too much away).

It borders on becoming "The Stiffler Movie" nearly all the way through, its easy to forget there is even a wedding going on at times. In fact, there is probably less of Jim in this one because of the use of Stiffler, but thats not really a complaint. Hell, they could easily make a spin off Stiffler movie - Sean William Scott is brilliant and nearly completely steals every single scene (though there`s not many that he isn`t in).

The film definitely has its gross out moments, one in particular is easily on par with the Van Wilder "semen cake" scene. Anyway, I`m not going to write too much more, apart from to say I was pleasantly suprised with this and it is definitely worth the trip to the cinema for.

"Two thumbs up" 8)

Sean William Scott plays stiffler in everything he`s in.

Not true. In fact, in Bulletproof Monk he plays someone called "Kar".

Hope that helps floyd.

I was going to go and see this, but opted to see Terminator 3 again. That shows just how eager I am to see this ;)

Although I probably will, once the Festival is over (if it is still on).

Just saw it for free (which helped). Some laughs, but nothing particularly special. I thought it odd that there wasn`t even a passing mention of the missing cast members, not even in a "wouldn`t it be nice if our friends from the last two films could have been here, were they not busy with their own lives" kind of way.

I know, I was being sarcastic floyd. Its a bit unfair to say his acting abilities are zero though floyd, he is by far the best thing in the American Pie films.

I saw this last night. I was very surprised and would say it is one of the funniest films I`ve seen in a long time. Seann William Scott was hilarious and I laughed at pretty much everything he did. It`s extremely juvenile stuff but hell, I laughed my ass off.

On first viewing, I can say it was easily as funny as the original (could be funnier?).

Loved it...especially the "Road Trip" throwback, via the school bus that stiffler turns up on! :)
Well worth seeing!

See Chewie, sometimes it is best to look past the UGC pass and all of its beauty, and try out other films...and sometimes you get rewarded, as with `American Wedding` (or `American Pie: The Wedding`, to give it its full UK title).
