Arcade game anniversaries in 2017

Ah memories! :)

Games that turn 40 this year (not many, video arcade games were still a really new thing in 1977), none of which I remember being a bit too young, and also it would be 78 before Space Invaders came out and essentially gave the game revolution the adrenaline injection it was waiting for:

Games turning 30, now these I remember really well! I think this would be around the height of my obsession with arcades (oh the disappointment when the holiday camp we went to advertised a games room and it turned out to be a ping pong table):

After Burner is the one I remember most actually playing, the rest I was exposed to mainly through home console conversions.

Games turning 20, again I only know these second hand, either console conversions or recommendations to try in MAME:

I remember playing space invaders and Pac man loads, in the hotel in holiday, or in the arcades at Southsea or when the fayre came to town in holidays. Normal units and table top :)

Then not much until Double Dragon, and later TMNT, X-men and other variations on same game.

Afterburner and Galaxy Force took my money when you paid for the whole Spinny round experience :)

A lot of the games listed I played on my Amstrad, but never saw the arcade machines.

I remember being really obsessed with an arcade game called Gorf. No, I didn't just misspell golf.
I "think" it's the one in the following video

I played that a few times, it's a strange one that! The speech running through the game is bizarrely entertaining.

Sadly i can remember Space Wars...

My all time favourite was 1942, then 1943... i would pay good money to have an original machine of this! Spent hours playing it and completing it...

there is a bloke down here makes them with several hundred games on them, and sells them for about £500...

There are very few games that i would want, Centipede, Asteroid, Parsec (TI994a game)...

I reckon there would be areal market for the over 30's for a good old fashioned games arcade again, or even a games machine in the local chippy!

If I won the lottery and could afford to just do it as a hobby, I'd open a combination arcade and coffee shop/bar.

Another alternative, if you are any good at making stuff, is a mini-arcade machine. I'm slowly building one atm out of an old iCade, Raspberry Pi, CCTV LCD monitor and Arduino (which I may swap out for an iPac).

Finally managed to get Retropie running on my Pi3 . Emulation Station is running on it and I have transferred a scheitteload of roms  to a usb stick and play them regularly. Arkanoid / Arkanpoid 2 Revenge of Doh is as addictive now as it was all those years ago :) I spotted a video on You Tube and I am thinking of making a wee cabinet, like an old time radio,  for the Pi3 and using a laptop screen from an old laptop as a display. Looks reasonably simple to construct so will give it a go :)
