Shadow of the Colossus (Demo)

Well the ICO team of done it again (PS2 demo).

What a cracking intro to a game, its like a movie, tremendous graphics, landscapes that go on and on, Phenominal archetcture, engineering bridge marvals, and thats all just at the start.

Once your on horseback you can gallop around everywhere on the plain and even try to launch the horse over the cliffs (go on, you have tried that hav`nt you, you bunch of sadists :p ).

Now for the tricky part, found using the beam of light where you`ve to head to and came to a mountain you have to climb.

There is a low ledge to the RHS the guy can climb up to, but I cannot reach that greenish ledge further up due to the steep slope, any clues how to get up there ?

Anyway, it looks a great game once I can figure out climbing :D

Just been playing it. On your right when you ride up to the cliff you should see a wall covered in ivy or similair. You start climbing here.

The creature is pretty impressive but not my kind of game.

EDIT- Just re-read your post. Do you mean the point where there are 2 sections of wall with a gap in between them? Climb the first one and while hanging, shimmy along to the left. Then you need to jump towards the other wall section and grab it. Tricky to explain but fairly easy to do.

I saw Playstation magazine had this demo (and 24) so I bought it. I must say, Shadow of the Colossus is a weird experience. At first I was thinking "so is this it?", as I ran around on my horse. Nice graphics but a less than consistant frame rate. Then I figured out what to do, and by JESUS, what a size that thing is. As I was holding onto the giant beasts calf muscle and ploughed my sword into it to bring him crashing down to his knees and I then quickly scurried up to his arse, I realised that this is a genuinely great experience. It`s not perfect, and I wonder how frustrating later beasts may be for a casual gamer as myself. But at the moment I`m pretty sure I`m gonna buy this, but not until it`s below £20.

totally. If the ICO demo was anything to go by in relation to the finished game, the SOTC demo will be a specially programmed demo. The level`s layout and the beast itself will probably change before the full release.

As for the size of the beasts, the finished game is said to feature giants at least 5 times the size of this one.

I hope also that there are a few changes.

The graphics although great, giving a massive landscape effect, are, a bit washed out looking. I hope they put a bit more colour into it. Even the main character is in black & white.

As for the giant beast, well after a lot of hanging on, especially round the head area, I was a bit dissapointed with all that gushing blood going on and on, rather than the origional writeup of being a stone type creature where there would have just been chunks of rocks getting hacked off it instead.

In fact, I felt real sad when the creature bit the dust, I mean, it did not fight back that much.

So I am in two minds whether to buy the game or not, cause the graphics are great, but the gameplay has a bit to much blood for my liking.

Not a fan of violence then? From what I`ve read (the game has been out in the US for a few months) not all the beasts are of flesh.

Agree, and that`s why I think this game is being praised the way it is. There is a moral question here, is the main character on a selfish quest? Yes, and I think that will be answered in the game.

Well I bought the game and its great. What a feeling of movement, I have just reached the big bird level, and the hanging onto the wings while high in the air is just brill.

Still feel a bit sorry for some of the monsters, especially that one with the big teddybear face, even though it trys to hit you with a 40 foot stone sword :p

Yup, amazing game. All the Colossi are fairly easy until No. 9, which was a tough and mean bastard to bring down.
