Championship Manager 5

mattwhite1 (Elite) posted this on Friday, 18th March 2005, 20:52

As an avid fan of the series (seriously addicted the wife would say) I have been looking forward to the latest installment for the 4 months of postponements.

I have to say that CM5 is a major let down. The gameplay has gone, the graphics blocky and poor and is a franchise killer really.

Champ Mans main strength before was that there were no main competitors, now that Sports Interactive have gone to Sega, Sega now have a matchwinner on their hands, and CM is dead in the water.

Anyone else got this, and what do they think?

Well Football Manager is champ really isn`t it, its a shame SI couldn`t take the name with them and save people the confusion.

Thanks for letting us know it`s pants. I`m still hooked on CM 03/04 (been a huge fan since CM first appeared on the Amiga) and thought I`d hang on for a bit before deciding whether it would be worth buying CM 5 or Football Manager 2005; I`m currently unsure whether the latter has enough improvements to justify the expense.

FM2005 is definitely worth the expense believe me. CM5 is now a very poor imitation of itself.

Football Manager 2005 is by far the best footy management sim I have played.

The fantastic free update offered by SI to make all the teams and transfers updated through to the January 2005 transfer window was pure quality.

I have won 14 trophies with chelsea already with Adriano and Owen up front.
C Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Duff and Lampard in Midfield.
A Cole, Terry, Ferdinand and Gallas in defence.
And finally Buffon in goal. ;)

Well if you want to compare teams:

Adu, Pazzini and Evanilson up front

Kallstrom and D`Alessandro attacking midfield

Oliseh and Petre defensive midfield

Barry, Chivu and Vanden Borre in defence

Sorensen in goal.

On the bench I`ve got Van Bommel, Juan, Mavuba and Mokoena (although I need a decent backup keeper).

My mighty Villa team are unstoppable :D

Oliseh`s been a legend for my Pompey team and was a free transfer also and so it`s sad that he`s just retired, and I`ve got Kallstrom joining for a free in the summer. :B

I`ll have to put FM2005 next on my shopping list and give CM03/04 the big boot soon after I manage to secure my 2nd Champions League title with Pompey. :o :B
