cirdan (Elite) posted this on Saturday, 25th September 2004, 02:23

just wondering if anyone has been to see it yet. i know alot of people have this on dvd but i was thinking about going to see it on the big screen, especially after several reviews from people who had seen it on dvd first said how good it looked.

Seen it today and it`s awesome!!!!

So much more than a martial arts movie...... and better than crouching tiger, hidden dragon.

It`s probably one of the most beautiful movies you`ll ever see...... cinematography is outstanding.

I`ve got the Region 3 DVD version - apparently Harvey Weinstein and the folks at Miramax have drastically cut and edited the film, so there is a different version being shown at our cinema to the one I own on DVD. Can someone throw any light to whether or not this is true?

Intrigued.

Is the R3 the version to go for as far as DVD is concerned? What`s the pic quality like - I see there`s a 2 disc set CDWOW offer for £10.99...

This might help, I have the Korean Ultimate Edition ( under £21 inc P+P ), and I am happy with it and ended up ordering another 2 for mates at work.

The pic doesn`t really do it justice, some of the best packaging I have seen on a DVD.

Buy it here :- http://www.koreandvds.com/dvddetail.html?id=17733

Look here for more info :- http://www.dvdcompare.net/comparisons/film.php?fid=3161

The great thing about that Korean dvd site is that they are on MSN Messenger if you need any help or order info.

:D

korean version only has the redeeming features of packaging - all extras are not english sub`d.

the hero in the cinemas was due to be cut, but after tarantino stepped in, the full version was released on the proviso that quentin put his name to it (hence `tarantino presents`).

the hero on cdwow is awesome - dts-es, brilliant color reproduction.

you can read about the whole miramax(e) affair at www.monkeypeaches.com.

u can also compare the different available versions on www.dvdcompare.net.

hope this helps,
Saqib.

Thanks Saqib - I`m just interested in a decent reproduction of the film, so the cdwow version sounds just right for me.

The UK verson is 99 mins, but `ve got the 107 min extended version. I`ve never seent he theatrical cut, but the extended version is very nice. Quality isn`t up to sracth when compared to the other R3 release, but it`s the only extended version available. I had free tickets to go and see Hero at the cinema but couldn`t make it :(
