T3 - what does James Cameron think?

papanez (Competent) posted this on Thursday, 4th December 2003, 09:53

I remember when T3 was about to come out, there were a couple of interviews where Jim Cameron said half of him wanted the film to be terrible, half of him wanted it to be great. Anyone seen anything since regarding what he did think?

Empire. He said that he liked what Mostow did with it, but that he would have done it differently.

He would have made a decent film for a start ;)

That`s a bit harsh. I quite like T3, you just have to look over the "modern day blockbuster" shell to get a film which isn`t just a shameless cash-in. Sure, it`s nowhere near as good as T1 or T2, but it`s still a good film.

Before he saw it he said Quote:
part of me hopes it sucks, and the other part hopes it carries on what we did 10 years ago in a believable and worthwile way

....Unlike what happened to his `Aliens`

T3 was ok and took the trilogy into a new level. The first 2 touched upon but were too scared to actually go right into the apocalypse. In that sense, this was more realistic, believable and has also paved the way for many sequels. The ending was unconventional to say the least

That`s because James Cameron wrote the line "no fate but what we make for ourselves" which is pretty much the idea T1 and T2 is based on. But T3 changed the message, T3 followed the more "conventional" message that every hero has a destiny and that it must be fulfilled. Sure, the ending is a big downer, especially for a big blockbuster but it was carried off well and was the best part of the movie. Something strangely beautiful about seeing the world being destroyed :/

But T3 went down the only path it could. T2 was the end of the franchise, and James Cameron couldn`t have done anything because he had spent his "message" and ideas and had put all the story he needed to on screen. But T3 turned it on it`s head. This should have p*ssed me off because it`s like sh*tting on a great franchise, but it worked :)

Yeah, I liked T3, but didn`t love it - this seems to be what most people think.

That was a cool ending, and I remember enjoying the movie in the cinema, but it didn`t have the lasting impact or depth of character of 1 or 2 for me - call it the 21st Century Blockbuster effect.

Unfortunately I reckon we will see T4, 5 etc. Arnie`s pretty tied up now with his other `career`, but seeing as he was the only major player to return for T3, I`m sure they`d go ahead without him.

It would have been great if Edward Furlong reprised his role, I think that would have lent the film far more gravity and authenticity, and well, just more Terminatorness I suppose! John Connor was just too wimpy in this movie for me.

Nick Stahl played John Connor as good as he could have. And have you seen Edward Furlong recently?
The last film I saw him in was Animal Factory and he is just a scrawny wee junkie. And he also can`t act to save himself.
