Lucas declares that the Original Star Wars Trilogy will NEVER be released in DVD as Originally Seen in theaters!!!

Harry here... All I have to say is F*** This, F*** Lucas and F*** These DVDs! Sigh... Ok, so I do have more to say. Gone for all time will be the original work of John Dykstra and his innovative motion control work in the original Star Wars.

Gone will be the original beauty of the Death Star explosion. Gone will be the original rhythm of the Cantina scene and the exchange between Solo and Greedo.

Future generations will never know the wondrous model work, we`ll never have preserved the initial miracles that the wizards at ILM created. Those original editions, those mistakes, they`re glorious. They are the original footprints that led special effects out of darker times.

All that artistry is lost on George Lucas. It was all errors, mistakes... the efforts of the original founders of ILM, the men and women that carved the imaginations of generations...

All of that means nothing to him. That work isn`t timeless to George Lucas. His complete and utter disregard for his own history, the work that EARNED THAT SPECIAL OSCAR... It all means nothing to him. That work, what possible harm is there in giving us that extra disc, making us pay for it. WE CARE! WE WANT IT! And I will never buy a DVD that doesn`t have it. I suggest you do the same.

Just got back from the opening night of the ILM/Skywalker Sound tribute at the American Cinematheque @ the Egyptian Theatre.

While it was real cool seeing Lucas in person, there really wasn`t a whole lot discussed that would be enlightening to most fans. Much of the Q&A revolved around topics that we have seen or heard in the many commentaries or interviews from the last twenty years.

Still, it was pretty damn awesome seeing the man, albeit he`s kinda of short in person.

Anyway, about the only major piece of info to come from this night may upset the purists. THERE WILL BE NO ORIGINAL VERSIONS ON DVD!!!

Lucas flat out said that we won`t see the originals on DVD and I`m guessing any format other than those it already exists, ie laserdisc and video.

Lucas feels the originals weren`t complete so the special editions are the versions he intended to make 20 years ago.

Whhhaaaatttttttttt????????? That is unbelievable!!!!!! Whats wrong with selling the original films on DVD (more money for you Lucas)....whats wrong with then releasing another package later on which includes the original AND the special edition (even more money for you Lucas)....

Why is it that I get the feeling that when Lucas does actually get round to releasing the original trilogy that we , the consumers , are going to get ripped off big time? Already there is talk of an `Ultimate Edition` of the trilogy going to be released on the cinema after he`s finished Episode 3 so does this mean we will have to wait even longer for an eventual release???

Why not , for example , just release the original version right now....doesnt have to contain any special features or whatever....so we can have something `Star Wars` to chew on????

I dont know! Im just going round in circles here! Why cant Lucas do anything that the fans and DVD buying public want him to do? Would make everyones life easier!

Can anyone tell me if those unofficial dvd`s some of you folk own, are the originals or the Special Editions?

I do not agree with piracy (I don`t believe it fund terrorists/mafia/general scum of earth) but Lucas is asking for trouble if that is his stand.

The Jabba scene was crap, and I have to agree with Jay and Silent Bob about Greedo shooting first!

IF this is all true of course, we all know how Lucas LOVES to milk the trilogy.

Well I tend not to trust anything on AICN, but this has been pretty common knowledge for a long time.

You can get both the "original" and special editions versions of the trilogy on the "unofficial" DVDs, but the quality of the originals isn`t really all that great. Still, maybe worth having as a piece of history?

No, don`t believe AICN until we know the true facts, it could just be a load of s***e.

Why cant Lucas just do what Spielberg done with E.T. and bring each movie out as a triple disk set, containing both the original and the special edition, and the third disk full of extras.
Would be expensive but worth it in the end

it appears all lucas is interested in is squeezing every last cent out of the trilogy, but the more he tampers and alters the less like the original it becomes. i had nothing against the re-releases in 97` i went to see them, as i never saw them first time round. but having both sets on vhs, although i dont watch then much now, i prefere the originals.
so as, has been said, he can still make lots of money by releasing the originals now then after ep3 in a few years do what he wants with the re-releases of the originals.
but all he did when re-releasing them a few years ago, i dont buy that oh i wanted to do things i couldnt then crap, he just wanted to experiment with techniques he would use in the new trilogy i.e cgi characters/backdrops/extras/creatures etc. he did this by using the origianls as a sort of guinea pig, and watching them again last year the newer bits are too stand out and dont fit in with the original look of the films.

I`m not all that bothered. Lucas has stated this before and I`ve had time to get over it. I have the bootleg DVD`s anyway (quite a few sets now) and I love them to bits. They are the only pirates I own and are the most watched dvd`s.
