RE: I`ve decided - X-box it is!!!

Elephant mate, you`ve made a good choice.

Halo is meant to be amazing (Edge don`t hand out 10`s for nothing), you`ll have the comfort of sitting on a nice comfy chair surrounded by cans of booze playing Champ Man on a decent-sized screen, Rallisport Challenge looks s*** hot for a rally title, Amped gives total freedorm for your snowboarding thrills and of course, stick the Roses into the play listing as you snowboard.

Fools Gold whilst snowboarding...bliss.

RE: Battle royale sounds quite cool, am i right?

It`s fantastic, and quite unlike anything you`ve ever saw.

Frenetic pace, dark humour, and very violent.

Go and purchase it today!!!!

RE: Gamecube Release!!!

D E V I L M A Y C R Y ? ? ?

O V E R - R A T E D ! ! !

RE: Gamecube Release!!!

The PAL GC will have a 60Hz mode - holding down the `B` button as a game is booted will enable it, but it`s still up to the developer if they wish to use it ala Dreamcast. Rogue Leader is the first known PAL game to use it.

And £150 is a masterful price - half the price of an XBox, and with the quality of games like Resident Evil coming out in early summer, I think Nintendo have finally saw the light in Europe.

Pity we only get a choice of purple or black GC`s. Oh well.

RE: quick question on BATTLE ROYALE...

Cheers for the reply, Chris, but this gets weird:

http://www.dvdcompare.org.uk/comparisons/film_results_page.php?fid=1550

They state that the film (R0) was cut by 4m38s, yet at the BBFC`s site, the work was passed with no cuts made, and no pre-cuts either.

I take it the BBFC site is correct then?

quick question on BATTLE ROYALE...

Is the R2 release uncut?

Cheers.

RE: Lord of the Rings

I thought it was the quickest 3 hour movie I`ve saw. Great casting, excellent effects (ILM who?), gorgeous scenery, and as faithful to the book as you can be in 3 hours.

Roll on the DVD...

RE: Dragon: Bruce Lee Story - R1 or R2?

R1 version is uncut, mate - R2 has a little bit of nunchakus missin`, but it ain`t much.

RE: shrek...lost!!!

I don`t understand why more people don`t use www.futureent.com

I got Shrek on the 2nd Nov, 2 days after ordering it. And I got Tomb Raider 2 days ago.

They`re based in Kent (I think), so you don`t have to worry about customs etc,.

If a DVD`s in stock, you usually get it within 2-3 days.

RE: Whats the last DVD everyone bought?

Tomb Raider - average film, but Angie`s ti*s are just the best thing ever.

RE: What version of SHREK shall i buy? R1 or R2?

Whatever region you choose, hurry up and move your ass to get it - the picture quality is the best I`ve ever saw on DVD...astonishing.

Final Fantasy? Pah....

RE: Final Fantasy Anyone?

Sorry, I hated the movie - I found it very dull and plodding. I agree with the last post, as FF7 and FF9 had better plots.

And the picture was very poor - the grain was bad, and only now, are people stating this. I know they wanted to give the movie a `realistic` look, but that is no excuse.

Some nice extras though, especially the `Thriller` parody.

RE: DVD Region X for PS2

Whoops, forgot to add this wee bit at the end:

The screen will return to the memory card/CD screen, so just click on the CD for the movie to run.

RE: DVD Region X for PS2

Phil, do the following:

Insert the dongle (memory card lookalike) into port 1 or 2. Make sure it`s properly in.

Reset/turn on your PS2 with the Region X disc inserted.

That screen you mentioned will come up, followed by a screen with 6 boxes (one for each region).

Select the region of the disc you want to watch (i.e if it`s a region 1 movie, select box 1), and press the X button.

The PS2 will eject the Region X disc, so now insert the movie, wait a bit, and it will load.

And that`s all you have to do!

RE: The end of DVD.............

These comments are welcoming, `cause it`s such a great format, and I`m sure that DVD has invigorated our interest in movies, tenfold.

Cheers, guys.

The end of DVD.............

.....is when..?????!!!!

This sounds like a daft question, but since everyone`s collection grows and grows, are you not fearful of when another format comes out and we have to start ALL over again!!!!!

I hope the DVD format lasts as long as VHS, but what do you experts out there reckon????

RE: shrek question?

99.9% sure it isn`t a RCE disc. Whilst being an expensive site, www.dc-dvd.net , they`re very descriptive of each disc, and state whether it`s RCE or not, and in this case, they didn`t.

I think you`re safe. :)

Final Fantasy in anti-climax picture shocker...

Has anybody watched Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within on DVD yet?

I thought the picture was very grainy looking, especially in the many `grey` scenes in the film.

I`ve got a Panasonic A160, but the Mummy Returns looks great and far, far superior.

In contrast, watch the FF10 trailer on Disc 1, and you`ll see the difference - it looks far better.

Cheers to www.futureent.com for sending it in only 2 days after ordering it.

RE: What is your favourite commentary on a DVD?

Yeah, I`m with Handsome here....Bruce Campbell`s commentary on Evil Dead is amazing.

RE: R2 star wars: phantom menace (what do you think??)

The picture was generally brilliant, but the audio was incredible!!!

Crank up your amp, and listen to the podrace sequence. Best DVD experience yet!

RE: Talk about cutting it fine - well done England !

Oh bollocks, another excuse to go on about 19 bloody 66 all over again next year........

Best just watch DVD`s, then...

RE: Nintendo GameCube.

I think, gameplay-wise, Nintendo have what it takes for superior games. Shigeru Miyamoto is regarded as the best games designer in the world, as has come up with such gems as Mario, Zelda etc,.

The problem that Nintendo have, is that the GC is perceived as a `kiddie`s machine` and targeted at the children-to-teen market, but with games such as the Resident Evil franchise being exclusive to GC, interpretations may be changed.

X Box has a massive marketing budget behind it (and of course, Mr. Gates), but so far, the reaction by the Japanese gamers and press has been somewhat muted (Japan being arguably the core market for videogames). The X Box also needs more exclusive, must-have games, and since this is Microsofts` first console, no-one is quite sure what to expect.

The consensus is that the PS2 will be the main winner, but the Gamecube will come second. If you can afford them all, go for it, as you`ll have the best choice for software.

As for the hard drive on the X Box, well primarily it`ll be used to store data, textures etc, and reduce loading, and once broadband is available to the masses, allow gamers to download up-grades, demos etc,.

And you`re right, hardcore gamers only care for the games. :)

RE: Nintendo GameCube.

£160 would be an amazing import price, but I reckon it might be around £250 with maybe one game and a converter, which you`ll need. The Jap games on release were fairly average, but one killer AAA game will be Rogue Squadron 2, which is looking quite unbelievable, and should be there on launch day.

The PS2 has been a huge anti-climax, and has not lived up to the hype. One AAA game in the UK (Gran Turismo 3), with many developers struggling to get to grips with the machine, though having said that, titles such as Wipeout Fusion, Silent Hill 2, Grand Theft Auto 3 may swing the pendulum in Sony`s favour.

I, like you, shall be getting a US Gamecube, so we get the games faster, and run at a lovely 60Hz, as the majority of PS2 PAL releases have suffered with lazy 50Hz conversions.

Roll on Mario & Co. :)

RE: HMV sale this Thursday

Some other nice bargains to be had are: Traffic, Galaxy Quest, Snatch (£10), Antz (£8), and a good video bargain has to be the Exorcist box set which has the doc., postcards etc for £6.

RE: Buy one get one free.........

Ooh, another person having a go at someone working at HMV....

I love the way I get slagged for opening my mouth at working there and getting discounts, and then we get inane remarks about "how I would love to leave my Government job to work in HMV" and "what a rewarding career...."

I`m perfectly aware it`s only a retail job, mate, so I/we don`t need your snide remarks on comparing jobs.

Grow up.

RE: OPERA from Anchor Bay Problems

Rollneck, there has been TONS of people complaining about the picture pixellating, or giving up around chapter 12/13.

I`ve ordered it from Play247 but they are not getting it until the 25th (i think), either because of problems or to do with the recent events in the US.

For more info on the Opera problems, go to www.horrordvds.com.

Hope this helps.

RE: Massive terrorist attacks in America

What hurts, bear, is the pain and suffering that happened yesterday.

RE: Massive terrorist attacks in America

bear, you should be ashamed of yourself, with your wholly insensitive comments...."it doesn`t taste nice does it america".

This is the worst terrorist attack ever, and you`re spewing s***e about how they got their just deserts.

It is a time for mourning, a time to think of the families who have been affected by THIS incident, and a time to show the upmost respect.

If you`ve feelings over other issues, which you most clearly have, then this is not the time to spout them.

For God`s sake, act like a decent human being, and show a little respect.

You make me sick.
