RE: The LImey ..ultimate crap.

I can not beleive you, The Limey was a great, original, artistic, clever film. Steven Soderburg uses non linear editing to full advantage. I am a big fan of Steven whose other films include Sex, Lies and Videotape, Out of Sight and of course Erin Brockovich. All his movies tell such compelling stories.

I baught The Limey when it came out last year and have since seen it 5 or 6 times... It gets better every screening. Terrance Stamp`s character Wilson is true and beleivable (although some stereo types creep in) Peter Fonda`s character is exactly the same as his character in Easy Rider... he still lives in the 60`s. Great movie, great story and very original. Give it a couple of viewings, it just gets better and better!

TWIN PEAKS. FIRE WALK WITH ME...DAVID LYNCH NEEDS YOUR HELP!

Laura has been dead now for nearly 11 years, but she still lives on.

About Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me;

This movie is in the pipeline, Mr Lynch has been in talks with the company that owns the rights to this movie. But he is trying to get his hands on the deleted scenes (which are at least an hour long! The movie was originaly made with a running time of just over 3 hrs but the studio wanted it cut down to 2 hrs, an issue David Lynch faces with every movie he makes!) but the deleted scenes are owned by another company and it is up to them to decide on if it will be profitable for them to release these scenes. For all you TWIN PEAKS fans out there, come together and email the studio who holds the rights to these scenes and tell them you want to see them, nicely! David Lynch has already said that he will not be releasing FWWM unless he gets these scenes... A sort of thank you to all those devoted TP `s fans around the world. This will be the last chance we get to see some new TP`s footage.

RE: What`s the worst film ever?

ERASUREHEAD! Shame on you rockysafc! That movie is a classic in modern cinema, a visionary masterpeice, imagery and sound! By the greatest Director of our Generation David Lynch!
I admit it is sometimes a little hard to watch but remember that this is what the subject matter is about. With all the cr*p movies Hollywood dish out year in year out. David Lynch is a our savior. The Straight Story, Blue Velvet, Lost Highway, Wild at Heart and Eraserhead all challenge the system of three act movies, by giving you a non linear experience made by talent and not robots!

With such a good thread as this one, I could possibly list 80% of Hollywood movies in the last 10 years! Hollywood is in turmoil as you read this... the union is falling, the screenwriters are refusing to write and soon Hollywood will have to be forced to search their screenwriting database for scripts because they are running out!. Perhaps then they will find some originality! But I am guessing `Not`!

Hollywood has been dead since the 1960`s. It has just taken everyone till now to work that out. Long live the golden era of Hollywood in the 30`s, 40`s and 50`s but good riddence to the system now. Make room for true talent from individuals and not the system!

I should list a few of the 80% mentioned above as this is really what the issue was, but I needed to get that of my chest!

HOLLOW MAN ! (No need for an intro)
BATTLEFIELD EARTH (Why bother)
ALL THE BATMAN SEQUELS (The first was the best and thats saying something)
ALL THE ALIEN SEQUELS (The first was great, just got worse ... Sorry all you Aliens fans but it was just tat!)
TITANIC (Should have stayed under the water)
MY BEST FRIENDS WEDDING (What a really dire movie that was)

So there you have it... to name but a few!

Got to go and drown myself now in the bath, CHEERS THEN!

Best soundtrack ever ... TELL US !

I would have to say my top five best soundtracks would have to be:

5) The Breakfast Club (Classic 80`s Sounds, with the memorable placed `Don`t you forget about me` SIMPLE MINDS (What happened to them, Great Band!)

4) Twin Peaks (The most Hauntingly brilliant soundtrack ever!)

3) Bottle Rocket (Great music from indie bands, very original)

2) Dazed and Confused (Classic rock tracks from the not so Classic 70`s)

1) Swingers (The best movie, the best soundtrack with no exceptions)

Tell us yours...

RE: Best Musical Score or Film Music?

`THERE CAN BE ONLY TWO` (forgive a near pun to Highlander)

JOHN WILLIAMS FOR JAWS. without this all we`d see was a very badly designed plastic heap of crap being kept affloat by divers and inflatable lilo`s!

ANGELO BADALEMENTI. for just about every film score he ever composed, to many to mention but lets go with TWIN PEAKS.

In my opinion these two stand alone. The kings of composing.

RE: What TV series would you like to see released on DVD ?

I JUST CAN NOT BELEIVE THAT OUT OF ALL THESE RESULTS NOT ONE PERSON HAS MENTIONED THE ONE SERIES THAT RATES HIGH ABOVE ALL TV SERIES LISTED HERE...

TWIN PEAKS !!!
TWIN PEAKS !!!
TWIN PEAKS !!!
TWIN PEAKS !!!

THE ONLY SERIES THAT MATTERS IN THIS WHOLE DAMN STUPID WORLD!

I know that this is all probably `old hat` to you, but please help...

I have just seen the movie Gladiator for the first time and really enjoyed it. I never thought that I was going to which is why it has taken me so long to see it.
I would like to buy it but I was wondering what region is the best. Are there any differences with R1 and R2. eg Picture, sound, extras etc.
They are both for sale at 17.99 (Play247) but which should I buy?

Thanks for your help.

RE: Honey....you got real ugly

Well, I to was looking to buy this movie and tried ebay, as it seemed that this movie was deleted. I started to bid and then bid and bid and bid until finally the price of this DVD was upto £25. I STOPPED!
It`s still going (god knows when it will end! Madness! The description on this auction was `This movie is very rare, it has been deleted! And it`s not available anymore.`
Unless you try http://www.dvdboxoffice.com/. Its here and it only costs £12........and being DVD Box Office (there is free worldwide shipping, but remember to keep the order under £20 if you do not want to incur Customs Fees)

Auctions are great for some movies but you have to make sure you do not get ripped off, bigtime!

Great movie, Great DVD with a load of Great Extras.

Please note it does take about 10 days to arrive...

GIVE ME SOME SUGAR, BABY!

RE: BBFC to blame?

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE! Just look back a little in this section to my original post. THERE ARE MISSING SCENES!!! Anyone with eyes can see it if they just watch the Documentary with the disk. Dialogue and the football dance scene... they are there in the documentary, BUT NOT IN THE MOVIE!!!!!!!!!!

I bet my right `Ball` there are missing scenes... and I never bet on any part of my anatomy!

No more on the other idea`s (NTSC vs PAL...) Just open your eyes!
I am with Wild Sheep, Lets get this sorted the hell out once and for all so I too can get some bloody sleep.

PS... If you prove me wrong, I will glady perform the opp on myself and then I will finally be able to get to sleep. Billy Elliot was a good movie but now I suffer from insomnia.

RE: BBFC to blame?

After reading your comments on the whole BBFC issue I would like to thank you for your opinions on this matter... I have writen several articles on the censorship of the UK and found yours to be very infomative.
About the whole Billy Elliot missing scenes... I had noticed this (and left a message in the Software section of this site) In the making of featurette you can see the scenes (briefly) that were edited out. One scene in question was whn Billy Elliot turns up for a dance lesson with a football, his mums letter etc. In this scene he dances around with Julie Walters holding the football. Also there are some notable dialogue changes in this and other scenes.
I have tried to find out why these were not in the movie release but no one seems to know, very strange! I think it will remain a mystery.

Just quickly before I go, I would also like to mention that you are right on the BBFC policy to release former films that were cut, in uncut versions but also the films that they pass now include many things that were deemed inapropriate about 10 years ago. So things are on the move!
Everybody knows that the worst cases of censorship at the hands of the BBFC are films from the genre of horror.Even though this is sometimes a joke (coming from a true Horror movie buff!) this too is changing with the releases of such titles as Driller Killer, Texas Chainsaw Massacre and the movie that started the ball running, The Exorcist. I think that by 2010 The BBFC will be long gone, and replaced with a new fairer system of classification / censorship giving back viewing rights to the consumer etc.

BOTH SELLERS ARE FROM THE UK.

HAPPY BIDDING!

RE: Auction Sites - STUPID!!!

Ebay is the best Auction site, especaily for Horror DVD`s / Videos. Quite recently I have just purchased Last House on the Left for £18, this is the french R2 uncut version (tell me where you can buy that movie in England?) Also the classic video of The Wizard of Gore for £10.
If you check them out on a regular basis you will see great movies, books and collectables (loads of stuff I have baught where on the classic series Twin Peaks) I admit that if you are looking for new releases you should look else where but quite frankly thats obvious anyway! Just check them out for all you genuine film and memrabillia collectors... you will not be disapointed!

RE: Who`s the best importer for UNCUT HORROR ????

www.dc-dvd.com They have several titles available (Cannibal Ferox, Cannibal Holocaust, I spit on your Grave, Maniac, Evil Dead collectors edition etc) I would personaly recommend getting Cannibal Holocaust from them rather than the inferior Cannibal Ferox!
As a horror fan I would have to say that DC DVD are a little more expensive than some sites but they have always shown good customer service. I think these tiltes are already here available in England so it avoids any customs problems.

RE: Director`s Commentary - Which is best?

DAWN OF THE DEAD !! Great commentary by FX Master Tom Savini. Very funny and informative. This film is worth the price alone for his commentary!

RE: DVD commentaries - waste of time?

Commentaries are great and are here to stay! I know that some are a little on the weak side but if you were to get rid of them, the other great ones would surely go and then we would be left with just a Trailer (Heaven forbid... if you want something to go, let it be this!)
The best commentary by far is Tom Savini on the R2 Dawn of the Dead. Very funny and informative. A close second would have to be Bruce Campbell R1 Evil Dead. Great fun.
As for Deleted Scenes, these are a must have (and to say why have these when they obviously thought that they didn`t work originally is crap). It`s all about Production Companies and Distribution unfortunatly we still share our cinema seats with those lovely people who do not like to sit still for more than 90 mins any runtime over this and it`s an eternity for them! Deleted scenes are often always wanted to be left in by the director but it all comes down to time and money.

Anyway the reason people have DVD`s are because they offer something that VHS could never offer. Good Pic, Good sound (which you take for granted now! Whats the first thing you look at when you turn over the DVD in Woolies... I wonder????) EXTRAs, EXTRAs read all about `em!!!!

RE: What is the best and worst extra(s) you have ever watched ?

BEST:
The commentary on R2 Dawn of the Dead, by the master Tom Savini. Really fun and informative.

Erin Brockovich R2 has some decent extras (including the real Erin Featurette)

Spaced R2 has some very very funny extras... love the outtakes, Hilarious!

Love and Sex R2 has a great informative feature on the Sundance Film Festival. Worth the price of the movie!

WORST:

Planes Trains and Automobils R1 when this was advertised it said deleted scenes and commentary... what we got was zero... not even a trailer. Such a classic movie, Paramount are useless!!!

Hollow Man Crap movie even crapper extras... how did this film ever get made?

The Cell, not a bad movie but the extras were pants... check out the pan deleted scene of the wall that goes on for a lifetime (I know that this was a cut away scene but why on earth stick it on the extras)

Too many crap ones to mention, shame only a few good ones...

RE: Whats the best horror DVD

The Fog is a great little movie, scared me when I was very young. I remember me and my best friend (we were both 9 years old... BBFC, who the hell where they?) sat watching it on video and when it was time for bed, we sat up talking about this movie all night (along with other creepy stories) what made it even more creepy was that we were camping out in my parents back garden. AH, the memories!!!!!

No The Fog has yet to be released on DVD (Hurry up Mr Carpenter) Will be one of the first in line...

RE: FEELING LOW ! WANT TO FEEL HAPPY ? TOP FIVE FEEL GOOD MOVIES...

Damn, I totaly forgot about, FIELD OF DREAMS and SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION.... (love the scene when Andy get Red and lads each a beer... Great scene and great movie!)

I think top 5 is too difficault, perhaps top 50 would be more like it, but that could take forever.
Cheers Steve for those reminders.

HAS ANYBODY ELSE NOTICED CERTAIN SCENES MISSING FROM BILLY ELLIOT ?

Just hired this movie out from my local video store, first time I have seen it... I thought that it was great. It really captured life the way it was in Durham in the early 80`s, I was about Billy`s age when the minors strike was in full swing and I can tell you that this movie captured the atmosphere totaly!
Back to the DVD in question, the picture quality was okay (only a few blemishes here and there) the sound was fine too. But the extras where a little on the poor side (I was really hoping for a commentry by the director) and as for the making of Billy Elliot, it was obviously aimed at the US market etc. While it was entertaining, I did notice some scenes that never made it into the main movie...
A scene where Billy is playing with the football that he takes to the Ballet lesson and several snippets of aditional dialogue that are not present.
I then checked the net for running times on all the region`s and found that the running time in the US was an extra 6 mins (I know about the NTSC / PAL Time differences, so don`t go on about that issue) so I put it down to this. BUT I also checked the running time on R2, it was 110 mins. But the actual running time was 105mins. 5 mins missing !! Was this a BBFC decision, the directors, distributers etc. Why is this DVD release shorter than the cinema release?
Check it out and tell me what you think

That being said, it`s a great movie which I thoroughly enjoyed. But if any other region has those extra scenes included, I will buy from them.

KEEP DANCING!

RE: FEELING LOW ! WANT TO FEEL HAPPY ? TOP FIVE FEEL GOOD MOVIES...

Clerks is available on R1 DVD from Play247 at £17.99. It is the collectors Edition and it`s great. Includes a great commentary from Kevin Smith. Buy it

FEELING LOW ! WANT TO FEEL HAPPY ? TOP FIVE FEEL GOOD MOVIES...

Whats yours...?

5. Planes, Trains and Automobils (THOSE ARN`T PILLOWS)
4. Swingers (SO MONEY)
3. High Fidelity (I`M WALKING ON SUNSHINE, WHOO HOO)
2. Bottle Rocket (WHY DO YOU HAVE TAPE ON YOUR NOSE)

AND MY NUMBER ONE FEEL GOOD MOVIE IS.... Drum Roll !

Feris Buellers Day Off. (HOW CAN I POSSIBLY GO TO SCHOOL ON A DAY LIKE THIS)

5 great movies to watch when you a feeling a little low (or like me, when you have split up with your girlfriend of 6 years), wack these into your DVD player and feel the energy fill the room!

RE: Whats the best horror DVD

Great news that the WICKER MAN is being released onto DVD (with the hard to find extended version too) I can`t wait for that... cheers for the info on that !
I must just add though, I thought that the Blair Witch Project was average, but lets face it... anyone who is quite `up` on their movies new this was old hat! It has been done before (quite a few times infact) Checkout Cannibal Holocaust (probably the most influenced film of this movie) also there was a great little movie called 84 Charlie Mopec... Although this was a film on the Vietnam War it was executed in the same way a BWP. Except the Documentary style camera angles worked to a much more frightning reality. When BWP came out the main reason it was so hyped up was because of the originality, take that away and you are just left with an over acted, low budget, nonsence story that has little pay off at the end.
Stick to The Wicker Man and The Vanishing (1988 version) if you want to be inteligently and genuinely creeped out.

RE: Whats the best horror DVD

As a Horror fan, by all standards the most atmoshericly Scary Horror film of all time is THE WICKER MAN. Still to this day I find this movie genuinly frightning. And this coming from a 27 year old chap who has watched horror movie`s like The Exorcist, Blair Witch, Scream, Friday the 13th, Halloween etc... nothing can compare to The Wicker Man. I know that it is not available on DVD at the moment but I have to mention this.
Other horror flicks that get my vote are...

Don`t Look Now (Venice never looked so horrible !) Soon to be on DVD
An American Werewolf in London ( Classic, need I say more)
The Vanishing (Not the lame remake with Jeff Bridges but the 1988 version) Really creepy!
Dawn of the Dead (Great Zombie movie, great DVD with a very funny commentary from FX master Tom Savini) Region 1 and 2
Maniac (Really gory, really fun horror flick from the early 80`s) on R1 only
Eyes Without a Face (buy this movie on DVD from June 2001)
Cannibal Holocaust (A movie to watch only once, beleive me you won`t watch it again, very nasty...!, possibly the hardest movie to watch of all time, that`s a good thing, by the way!)

Enjoy....

RE: DISNEY DVD`S..... DO SOMETHING ABOUT THEM! NOW

Hey Mike, I think that we should nominant you for spokesperson of consumer affairs. I agree with you totaly! DVD`s are now common (so all those people who still say that they are a new format and you have to expect some minor problems are talking crap) and this issue of certain DVD`s that have problems on certain DVD machines needs to be sorted out now, instead of fobbing us all off with the advice on buying a more expensive player (the only reason most people buy DVD`s players at a price tag of around £200 is why bother to spend more when in about a year or so`s time most will upgrade to a recordable DVD player) These companies want, we the consumer (as always) to just throw money at them every year on upgrading etc. The main issue is to make all DVD`s playable on ALL DVD players... There are no excuses!
Anyway, Mike, you have said it all !

Lets hope that they get it right otherwise the DVD industry will surely be in the crapper with the people who have yet to fenture into the the world of DVD !

DISNEY DVD`S..... DO SOMETHING ABOUT THEM! NOW

DINOSAUR, GREAT MOVIE .... YEP
THE STRAIGHT STORY, GREAT MOVIE... YEP
TOY STORY, GREAT MOVIE... YEP

BUT WILL MY DVD PLAYER SHOW ME THERE GREAT VIEWING PLEASURE..... NOPE!!!!!!!!

DINOSAUR GETS HALFWAY THROUGH (CHAPTER 20) AND THEN RESETS ITSELF TO THE START... THE CHAPTER SEARCH MALFUNCTIONS, THE TRAILERS (ANNOYING DVD TRAILERS, DISNEY ARE THE ONLY ONES I HAVE ENCOUNTERED ON A DVD SO FAR!) FREEZE AND WILL NOT SKIP!

THE STRAIGHT STORY JUST FREEZES AFTER ABOUT 30 MINS AND THE CHAPTERS MALFUNCTION.

TOY STORY DIDN`T EVEN PLAY!

I HAVE HEARD MANY REASONS FOR DISNEY`S POOR DVD TRANSFERS BUT I WAS SUPRISED TO HEAR THAT THEY ONLY TEST THEIR DVD`S ON TOP OF THE RANGE DVD PLAYERS (LIKE SONY) AND NEVER ON THE BUDGET DVD PLAYERS FOR AROUND £250 OR LESS!
I HAVE HAD NO PROBLEMS WITH MY PLAYER AT ALL OTHER THAN THESE THREE DVD`S FROM DISNEY. THE OTHER DISNEY DVD I HAVE (101 DALMATIONS) PLAYS FINE. I HAVE OVER 100 DVD`S IN MY COLLECTION AND MY PLAYER IS RAITE MULTI REGION DVD WHICH IS ACTUALLY AN AMERICAN DVD PLAYER I BAUGHT WHILE I WAS LIVING IN LOS ANGELES, IT REALLY IS A GREAT MACHINE (I BAUGHT IT A YEAR AGO FROM FRY`S ELECTRONICS IN BURBANK FOR $120... BARGAIN!!!) AND IT HAS SERVED IT`S PURPOSE WELL! BUT WHEN IT COMES TO DISNEY IT`S NOT QUITE UP THERE IN THE SONY LEAGUE. THIS REALLY p***ES ME OFF. DISNEY ARE GIVING DVD`S A BAD NAME, TO MY KNOWLEGE THE AVERAGE DVD PLAYER SOLD IN THE UK IS AROUND £200 TO £250 AND NOT THE OVER £500 SONY MODELS THAT SEEMS TO BE DISNEYS STANDARD.
SOMETHING HAS TO BE DONE, DISNEY NEED TO CHANGE THE WAY THEY TEST THEIR DVD`S. THEY NEED TO APOLOGISE FOR THEIR MISTAKES AND GIVE THE AVERAGE CONSUMER BACK HIS RIGHTS .......OR GOD DAMN IT WE WILL FIGHT THEM IN THE AIR AND ON THE BEACHES. LETS ALL STAND TOGETHER ON THIS, SIDE BY SIDE AND FIGHT THE BASTARDS!

IF YOU ARE p***ED OF WITH THIS WHOLE DISNEY ISSUE (NOT TO MENTION THE COST OF DISNEY DVD`S COMPARED TO OTHERS.. DON`T GET ME STARTED ON THAT ONE!) REPORT IT TO THIS WEB ADDRESS AND HELP POOR OLD WALT FROM TURNING IN HIS GRAVE.
