Battle of Britain (1969)

I hear there is a rerelease of this film on VHS in Sept 2001, anyone know of a DVD version? My searches have drawn a blank so far.

Macrovision and Sony - the devil`s spawn

Just on whim whilst playing with my new toy, thought I`d try to record a DVD to Digital8 camcorder. I used the S-Video link and expected the usual loss of sync and picture tearing.

Crystal clear video was on the LCD screen (quite sexy really), all was fine for 10 secs then the message "Copy Inhibited" apeared and about 5 sec later the camcorder was automatically shut down.

Play back gives me 10 sec of perfect copy. Sony are in league with the devil :-)

So if anyone fancies trying with other digital camcorders, mine is a Sony TRV120E with analoge in enabled. But I doubt you will any better result, but please do try to prove me wrong.

Now to find another hack for the camcorder, to defeat Macrovision detection.

RE: PANASONIC SA-HT80 5 DVD CHANGER HACK

A guy at work has the same player and is on the trail for a hack. If he gets anywhere I`ll drop you a line.

;-)

RE: Where can you buy the Farscape DVD`s for the cheapest price

This is the cheapest price I`ve found yet. Bear in mind these are double disc box sets, unlike some places that charge this much for a single disc.

Though come to think of it I got one set slightly cheaper from Gameplay. Just a one off though.

RE: Region 4 Buffy Series 2 Boxset

Yes got mine Friday 11th, it got caught for duty and VAT but that`s a not UK customs (I don`t live in UK)

RE: big sale at ezydvd.com.au!!!

EzyDVD are great people, BBC The Planets, £19 ish. Handy as PCWorld will not ship without UK postcode, which I sort of don`t have.

RE: Allright you JVC hackers...HELP!

then draw one on the CDR

RE: Italian Job, did they realy do that to them cars?

Found this on the web.
"Although all the Coopers used in the film were wrecked, both the Jaguar and the Aston-Martin were restored and still exist. As for the Miura, if you look carefully at the wreck as it rolls down the mountainside you`ll notice it has no mechanicals in it. It was merely a mold-buck on a rolling chassis. (You didn`t seriously think they`d wreck a real Miura, did you?)"

at http://www.italianjob.com/nalkt.htm
Not definative I know, but the site seems serious enough.

RE: Italian Job, did they realy do that to them cars?

Apparently the production crew, approached Austin mini to get a promotional price, but were turned away.

My father worked at Aston Martins at the time, I`ll ask him if he has any recollections about the Italian Job. I remember as a child looking at the Bond Aston(s) for Goldfinger, and yes they did make more than one.

RE: bol crazy deals 40% off

Good luck with BOL they have a reputation of advertising items they do not stock and in my case they couldn`t tell the difference between a DVD and a VHS cassette (check the forum archives). Their returns policy does work but just takes a month or two to get the refund out of them.

Hope you get better service I`ve had it with them.

RE: What TV series would you like to see released on DVD ?

S.A.A.B. I know it was a bit gung ho, like Starship Troopers, and was dropped by Fox but I liked it.

RE: BOL dumb dispatch

Well 6 days later and BOL still haven`t refunded the second error, seems BOL have two speed post and banking. Quick to take money and dispatch, but my return must be automatically detected by the P.O. and sent by carrier snail.

BOL couldn`t possiblly be hanging onto my money, (obtained under false pretences) for as long as possible could they ? ;-(

rant off

BOL dumb dispatch

Books online BOL, had some good prices on DVDs, ordered a couple, arrived in 3 days, VHS in package, long chat to customer service, they would only resolve the problem if I re ordered at my cost. The original would be refunded once they received the return.

3 days later new package two more VHS copies!

Customer service suggested the same solution I refused, and returned the second package for refund.

Now the insult gets deeper, 3 weeks have past since the first package was returned. Today I got an email saying the first cockup is refunded, but I have had to complain repeatedly. They say they haven`t received the second return yet.

BOL = BOLxxxxs steer clear, at best the web site is broke, and customer service haven`t read their job desciption.

RE: HOW PURE ARE YOU? (Take the DVD Reviewer Purity Test)

I scored a 42%.

But I was sad enough to spot a probable Typo unless it`s a trick question to weed out the the less techies. Question 53. Rear Right is listed as Left Right.

Unless of course this is truely a personally tailored quiz and advanced web technology has determined that I am in the Military.

RE: CANNOT PLAY VCD ??NOT ORIGINAL

It`s not always a burnt CD that makes it a bootleg pirate, I have seen totally pirate disks that are pressed in Thailand. They even have the title written in the itsy bitsy writing on the hub of the disk, I`ve found the packaging usually the best give away.

However these pirate disk I`ve described should play like genuine disks.
(If your equipt can handle that format)

Watching a rocking 370

Farscape 2 Box at Gameplay £12.99 + 99p

Hi
above listed as single DVD, is infact double disk Box set 2 (disks 1.3 & 1.4).

:-)

RE: Classic Adult DVD £12.99

Yes sounds familiar (Rob C)

I`ve heard someone say `loads` a few time and I`m in my forties, the rest is fairly unfamiliar. I`ll ask my partner if she or I fit the sad git bill.

However we may never know as BOL seem totally incompetant with another title (non adult) and their dispatch dept cannot tell between VHS and DVD.

Interesting view HMV staff have of the paying customers.

You must have some gripping chats with them during your busy day.

(live and let live)

Oh and I`ve been heavily snipped too :-)

RE: Creating A slide show on a CD

If you want a simple slideshow Nero 5 will do it. If you set the pause interval to infinite you will have to advance to each picture by hand. If you select a suitable pause time (5Sec) then you can use the DVD pause button to freeze the picture.

RE: GREAT FILMS THAT WE, (OR I), WANT TO SEE ON DVD

No particular order, and some not that great, just for old times sake.

Battle of Britain
SAAB - complete
Those Magnificent Men in their Flying Machines
Earth 2 - complete
Mona Lisa
How to Murder your Wife
Casino Royale

Plus if it`s released in the future. ;-)

007 - You Only Troll Twice

RE: GREAT FILMS THAT WE, (OR I), WANT TO SEE ON DVD

You are only the second person I have ever met who knows this film.

The Adventures Of Buckaroo Banzai Across The 8th Dimension

RE: phillips pronto

That`s were discrete codes come in, rather than the usual toggle or cycle code. If you look on the web there are discrete codes to set a particular mode for certain equipments. It`s the equipment manufacturers who need to allow any remote set particular modes.

RE: DVDBOXOFFICE anyone?

I just sent an mail to them this morning. Ordered 3 Jan, no movement, on Order history, reading between the lines this is due to item being out of stock. No emails, no invoice, no delivery, no stock indication on site.

If no reply tomorrow I`ll try to cancel and try to order elsewhere.

DVDPopcorn were very quick, so maybe them.

RE: Problem with Saving Private Ryan & Awia 370

Ok. Stanly

I have done some digging on the net, and came up with this quote from the site below.

"There is a moment about 25 minutes into the film, where a special lens was employed to create a flaring effect of background flames. This results in bright columns of reflected glare rising up from each small fire. I spoke with Dreamworks about this moment in the film and was assured that it was in fact, an intentional effect that was also present in the theatrical release. I can`t recall it specifically, but I have no reason to doubt their word. I only mention it here so that you are aware that it is NOT a defect in the transfer, which earns our highest honors for image quality."

http://www.thebigpicturedvd.com/cgi-bin/master/viewer.cgi/Saving_Private_Ryan

I now believe there is little wrong with my Aiwa, and what I am seeing is described above. Perhaps my Aiwa+Sony+ my eyes accentuate the effect, (I even recall something similar in the theatre).
