Synopsis:
The hippest cast in history has united to become the funniest superhero team ever. Ben Stiller, Janeane Garofalo, Hank Azaria, William H. Macy, Greg Kinnear, Geoffrey Rush, and Paul Reubens join forces in this wild, funny and thoroughy original misadventure.

When Captain Amazing, Champion City`s legendary superhero, falls into the hands of evil madman Casanova Frankenstein and his disco-dancing henchmen, there`s suddenly a chance for the aspiring superheros to show what they can do.

They`re the Mystery Men... a ragtag team of superhero wannabes featuring: Mr Furious, whose power comes from his boundless rage; The Shoveler, a father who shovels `better than anyone`; The Blue Raja, a fork-flinging mama`s boy; The Bowler, who fights crime with the help of her father`s skull; The Spleen, whose power is pure flatulence; Invisible Boy, who`s only invisible when no one`s watching, and The Sphinx, a cliche-spewing philosopher.

With its outrageous adventure, incredible cast and hip alternative humour, Mystery Men is so irresistibly funny and appealing, seeing it just once will never be enough.

I really enjoyed this film.

There is a grand array of extra features, that include deleted scenes, film maker notes and music highlights.

The film in general was stupid and very light. But then that what you get if you take a comic strip and make it into a film.

fantastic...made for a dull sunday afternoon.

Content:- A surprisingly witty and funny film, which is a joy to watch both because of its glorious visuals and its hilarious characters. A very well paced film, in my opinion, that flows along very nicely and kept surprising me.

Video:- A very colourful and clean transfer, as you would expect on a film of this age and type. Aye.

Audio:- Also colourful and clean, and with some good and well represented songs that hop along just fine. A fitting soundtrack here.

Features:- Plenty on offer for your consumption. Good good.

Overall:- I really liked this film a lot, and I would probably have bought it on the strength of the film alone, but there is also plenty of other stuff here to convince you. Good all round really. Yep.

Mystery Men itself is a wonderfully harmless piece of fun - there is no sex, no swearing, no nudity, and no (over the top) violence. It being a PG this may be no surprise, but what is a surprise is how enjoyable this movie is without all that stuff. The film is just filled to the brim with great characters, great dialogue, and some great scenes which are never supposed to be taken too seriously.

The disc itself is a little gem. The picture quality is excellent and sound quality (DD 5.1) is pretty good too, and what may look like the usual display of extras are really rather good.

The 18 mins of "Spotlight on location" even has its moments. Sure it`s filled with a certain amount of the usual self-promotional fillers, but the interviews and behind-the-scenes footage are well worth watching. I haven`t listed to the director's commentary but I have heard good things about it. The 19 mins of deleted scenes are mainly to do with the 3 central characters - played by Ben Stiller, Hank Azaria and William H. Macy. While they are very funny in places, you can see why they were cut, although it would have been nice to have a commentary track option for these scenes. A brief biography of the principal cast as well as the (first time) director is available, each with a selected filmography. There is also text based production notes and a section on the origins of the mystery men comic characters. I was extremely surprised to find that these were both extremely interesting despite the annoyance of having to scroll through from page to page. There is also a trailer and a few DVD-ROM features.

Oh and there's also a 'music highlights' thing, which allows you to select various scenes in the film that had, er, music in them. a little odd that feature! The menus themselves are unoriginal and static, but easy to navigate, so no real cause for complaint.

Altogether, a great film and a great disc. I love this film, because it's just great fun. equally I know some people who loathe this film with a passion that I would normally reserve for travesties such as the Avengers. but still, I like it - so there!
