Cyclists Should Be Seen And Heard

HORNIT Provides Extra Safety for dark winter commutes

Savvy cyclists are seeking additional security measures for the dark winter months, to make sure that their presence is known by fellow road-users. Launched a few months ago, the Hornit provides cyclists with a 140 decibel horn so that if they aren’t seen, they can be sure that they are heard.

Designed to be audible above city noise and in-vehicle radios, the Hornit (RRP £34.99) is perfect for all who cycle in congested, built-up areas. Safe and easy to use while braking, the Hornit is operated by a remote trigger which sits under the cyclist’s thumb.

Tom de Pelet, the British inventor and Ironman triathlete commented, “I had so many near-misses while commuting through London’s streets, and one frustration kept popping up: like most cyclists, I could tell when a driver hadn’t seen me, but had no effective way to let them know I was approaching. I soon discovered that there wasn’t a high quality, effective product to solve the problem, so set about designing one.”

The Hornit is available from thousands of independent bicycle stores nationwide and via www.thehornit.com

Powered by 2 AAA batteries, the Hornit is the same size as a bike light and will last 6-12 months with normal use (six one second blasts a day). The versatile design can be used on all styles of bicycle.

About Hornit

Hornit is the trading name and registered trade mark of Bullet Ventures Limited.

The product was invented by London-based ex-lawyer and Ironman triathlete, Tom de Pelet. Passionate about cycle safety, de Pelet commuted and trained on the streets in London, and realized there was an absence in the market for a product that could be heard above the noise of a buzzing city.

Tens of thousands of avoidable accidents between vehicles and cyclists occur every year because drivers fail to look properly. The Hornit significantly reduces the chances of a cyclist not being seen.

The company launched the Hornit dB140 at the London Cycle Show in January 2012 together with its UK distributor, Extra UK and since then has gone from strength to strength, partnering with a total of 22 distributors in 21 countries in the nine months since launch.
