RE: What is the bright light in the sky over Brittain ?

As most have previously said, it`s most likely the ISS.
I watched it pass over a few times a little while ago when you could see both the ISS and Space Shuttle after they had separated.

This link NASA Tracking will show you its present position in orbit and if you click on the "Sighting Opportunities" button and follow through, you should find the next best times for viewing (looks like about 5:30 and 7:00 AM tomorrow morning - cloud permitting!).

RE: ADSL2....speeds

I ran across an interesting graph on this page (via Hotukdeals). There seem to be quite a few discussions about the net on the subject. Look how the ADSL2+ bitrate plummets as you move away from the exchange :o

RE: sci fi week on radio 4

Just realised that I`d missed it as well. Went to Iplayer, but it`s NOT available to download. Bugger!
But it looks like the first episode is broadcast again on Saturday at 21:00

RE: Vicar has potato removed from bottom......

I knew an older lady, who was having a bath whilst on holiday. She slipped and "sat" on one of the bath taps (it was one of those older types with the 4 protruding bars :o ). She had to be helped free and then explain it the the doctors when they treated her.
I`ve never been able to look at that style of bath tap again......... ;)

RE: Weston-super-mare Pier gone

It burnt down quickley, all over in about 3 hours!

Leave the wood to rot, it`s not as if you can hurt yourself falling 15 feet into the sea.

You`d be lucky to fall in the sea there, tide is only in for about 5 mins twice a day, you would land in mud :(

Quote:
Rod Brenner, who owned the pier until six months ago when he sold it to the current owners, said: "I think that what has happened is, fortunately it had a very thick hardwood floor, and I think that has held, from what I can see here.

From pictures I`ve seen, there`s loads of games machines lying on the mud under the pier supports, so on`t think the floor has held out too well (anyone got a metal detector and a crowbar? ;) ).

I think tht it is sad for the same reasons posted earlier, but it`s going to be harder for Weston as it was a one horse town and that was the pier.

RE: What makes this country great

Sorry to say it, but I agree with mbilko, the country is going to hell in a hand basket and i think that it`s too late to save it :( .
I tried New Zealand, but didn`t make the points, but my mate on the other hand was forward thinking enough to marry a qualified nurse and is settling down nicely at the moment (lucky b[at]ts*rd!!).
I`ll encourage my kids to travel, with a view to emigrating when they get older (if anywhere will let Brits in!).

RE: 250Gb twin tuner DVR £58.71 in Costco

Had a look at Costco in Bristol and they were priced about £93 as the G MAN found. :(

RE: Good news about loud adverts

Bloody good news. It`s been bugging me for ages >:(
At first I thought that it was just me.

RE: Man Faces Charges for Having Sex With Picnic Table.......

Don`t get caught out if you`re out walking down the street like this bloke! :o :o

RE: Any BMW windscreen wiper experts?

I`m with kebabhead. the Haynes manual only goes so far and you need to be somewhat technically minded to get the most out of it.
I`ve found most car manufacturers forums to be a mine of useful info and generally very helpful when you post questions.

RE: Petrol Management?

As previously stated, there are a number of factors to consider before buying a diesel:
higher initial cost, more regular servicing required, higher cost of fuel, annual mileage etc.
There are a couple of guys that I work with and they have switched to diesels due to mileage they cover.
One bought a VW Passat N plate for about £1400, he`s done about 70,000 miles in 3 years. He`s saved close on to the cost of the car in fuel by switching to diesel and would probably get about £600-£700 if he sold it now, not bad resale that!
The other guy bought a E320 CDI Merc (IIRC), he would get over 40 MPG on a run in that and that was a lot of motor with some grunt as well.
One of the other things to consider with diesels is running on veg oil (new and used), with older VWs and Mercs being the cars of choice as they seem to be able to handle it without to much problem with people going into Tescos, buying veg oil and pouring it straight into the tank (evidently, it`s due to things like the fuel pumps, Bosch are better than Lucas). Google "goat industries" for a place to start looking at veg oil use.
I`ve got to admit, I`m looking to get another car at the moment, and I`m looking at older diesel VDubs, but good (and bad!) ones ain`t cheap, and I don`t think that they will be getting any cheaper.

RE: Sony Ericsson w810i (Black T-Mobile) - £30 (new customers only) Delivered!!

Thanks for the link jiggazz, just got given one of these by a friend which was locked to rcadoV[at]p, so following that link I (eventually - I also used the other link to the se-nse.net forum from that link) debranded and unlocked the phone, so one happy bunny :)

RE: M.O.T

As all above!!

Marksparks, I know a PC in the D&C and we were discussing traffic offences in general, when he told me that his Sergeant had told him not to bother with anything else apart from the original offence of no MOT. He wasn`t very happy about it!

RE: Got cut up on a roundabout by a 4wd with trailer....

I feel for you retro.

Similar thing happened to me in a Tesco car park, 4x4 with horse box ripped across the front of my car, completely oblivious and I watched him do it, but had the little one in a push chair at the time, so couldn`t chase after.

There are a number of (large) roundabouts where I live, and the number of people that join a roundabout and go all the way around on the outside to the last exit astound me >:(
There is another one with 3 lanes, where people cut straight across to the next exit, crossing into the middle lane straight out to the next exit. B[at]ts@ds >:( >:(
To be honest, I don`t hold out much hope for you, but good luck.

RE: Asda Win(e)

Yes, great offer. As n-irl, topped up for Xmas today, but initially couldn`t find any bottles on the shelf as they had been cleaned out! Did find them at the end of the isle on a seperate display of £8 and £7.50 wines, but none were marked as 3 for £10 so nearly missed them :o

Ogster,

looks like a trip to the market for that one, unless you can get a code from the operator.

RE: What is the best software to retrieve pictures deleted from a memory card?

Dan,

have a look at this recent thread, there should be something there of use.

I`m with Bob-b on this, I suspect a leak, but it could be anywhere in the boiler/pipework or radiators.

RE: O2 Sim Card + Tesco/Virgin Mobiles, are they compatible?

r8sso, Tesco use the O2 network, but Virgin use the T-mobile network.
Having said that, not sure if you can use an O2 sim in a Tesco mobile, but I think that you can use a Tesco sim in an O2 mobile.
As for unlocking a Nokia mobile, you can unlock some easily via a (free) calculator. Try at Unlockitfree to see if it can be unlocked for free.

RE: Fuji 5700

I`m toying with the idea of getting a dSLR and was looking at this model as I have some old Pentax lenses, but as it was £299 I gave it a miss. Noticed the other day in ASDA at £249.99, maybe it`s a local reduction or national and they`re all reduced again.
Must resist temptation and not look in ASDA tonight...........

RE: Drivers on camera, all day every day?

Bloody hell, driving around Weston Saturday, spotted the unmarked camera van again and the car tax dodger spotter :o
It would be interesting to know how well they do.

RE: TV-Links has gone :(

What he said! ^^^^^

RE: Drivers on camera, all day every day?

Driving along the main road into Weston today, just off of the motorway interchange, when noticed an unmarked transit parked on the side of the road with various windows in the back doors. First thought was speed camera, but just up the road at the next roundabout were police pulling over various vehicles.
The penny dropped, must have been ANPR in the van, telling the police who to pull over.
I suspect that they chose this weekend as there is a motocross Enduro on the beach this weekend with a load of potential victims amongst the visitors.
The best bit was as leaving Weston on the same road later, in amongst the traffic queue I noticed the police pushing a car to one side. There didn't seem to be anyone else (i.e. the driver) who I assumed had worked out what was happening and dumped the car in the queue and legged it .
They had a similar system at the Fairford RIAT airshow this year, where you're stuck in nose to tail slow traffic, turn the corner to be met by a van with (I suspect) APNR and a sign next to it saying road tax check point and no way to get out of it!

RE: Nigella`s jugs

Saw the title, I knew that it was too good to be true! :D :D

Drivers on camera, all day every day?

Further to the recent post about North Somerset council admitting that speed cameras were money makers, a local paper has now come up with this article about how you are being "observed" whilst driving.
This has been happening for a while now, and will soon (if not already) lead to a national network where the Police and "Other Government agencies" will be able to observe "villains" going about their business.
Didn`t expect them to go public just yet, but I suppose that most people were expecting this sooner than later anyway.

RE: You Know what

Slightly off topic, but for some ideas of how to deal with telemarketers you could search youtube for examples by Tom Mabe.
If you haven`t heard them before, they`re quite funny.

R2D2 Injured in X-Wing mishap

I haven`t seen it posted here yet, apologies if it has been already.

Short video of it here.

Long version here.

Home page for full story here.

It was fun for a short while anyway :D :D All that hard work......... :o
Look how close the 2 guys were to the launch/crash
I can`t imagine being able to do that here, not enough space (no pun intended!) to try it.
