Page 1 of How many browsers do you use?

I've gotten to that point in life where as long as it works the way I want, I'll keep it. And when it comes to browsers, I'm stuck on classic Firefox, back before the direction at Mozilla shifted to take choice away from the user.

My main browser for surfing is Firefox 56, which still allows legacy add-ons, especially Classic Theme Restorer, so I get  it looking the way I want in terms of toolbar placement and button arrangement. The tab bar has to be below the address bar. It's simple ergonomics. But more and more sites break with old browsers, and it gets easier to corrupt the profile. Resetting Firefox and restoring my addons is a pain I no longer have time for.  Thankfully I've discovered how to run multiple versions of Firefox simultaneously, easier still if you use portable Firefox.

So now I use Firefox 56 to surf, Waterfox Classic to play online games (most likely to crash and corrupt profiles), Google Chrome to shop online and IMDb, and an up to date Portable Firefox 116.01 to watch Youtube videos (which broke on my old Firefox last week).

I use this old bit of graphics software that has a Win 3.11 help file which always triggers a no-longer-supported warning, which pops up in Microsoft Edge. There have been times last week I've had five seperate browsers running on my laptop!

Edge for most things and sometimes Firefox.
Also Chrome as although Edge was based on it you can't use the mic with Duolingo.

at home:

Chrome - webmail, twitter, facebook, other social media sites, sites where login is needed (but not shopping)

firefox - general browsing - set to auto delete cookies, history, temp files etc on exit

tor browser - err sites my isp blocks ;)

firefox developer edition - hotukdeals and shopping sites

Seamonkey - this site and another forum site I use, I'm sure there's a good reason I use a separate browser for this site and the other site, but I have no idea what it is any more, so just do it out of habit!

at work:
as above, apart from no Tor browser
use Edge just for sites I need to log in at work, for work use only

don't use seamonkey but use chrome for the sites i use seamonkey for at home

also, on my mobile I use the adblock browser,

I used to use Puffin, but they made some changes with regards to the way you could/couldn't open new tabs, which i didn't like

Firefox for personal, Chrome for development (with maybe Safari for iOS testing), and Safari iOS on my iPhone/iPad. I guess sometimes Lynx on a command line terminal?

Don't like the idea of giving any more of my data to Google than I have to, so would never use Chrome for personal stuff.

Might have to change my browser choice as Edge has stopped playing videos on Twitter.
I'm just getting the sound but the image stays frozen.

Tried with Firefox 124.0.2 and all works fine.

What's the received wisdom on the best option these days?

that's a wierd problem you have, i'll have to try that tomorrow, Edge is now Chrome more or less so should work fine like Chrome does. maybe it's an addon is messing it up?

Still using browsers above, I've dabbled in waterfox and palemoon but no better than firefox.

tried opera, vivaldi, brave but didn't like them enough to switch.

have been trying arc on Win 11 the new latest big thing in browsing, but apart from the tabs being on side rather than top I've not noticed anything special about it

Been using Chrome for years, though I have noticed my ad blocker 'Privacy badger' is not working as good now that I have moved onto win10, must be more adverts than previous windows. Also a lot more cookies getting through and have to purge about 300 a week with my cookie cruncher program, compared to earlier windows which was say 50 a week.

Chrome has also slowed down as I think win10 keeps Microsoft edge running in the background, and no idea how to switch off Edge completely which is always live telling you weather and news on the task bar with win10.

Find win10 more complex and not as user friendly as previous.

If you use an iPhone or iPad, you are using Safari no matter what you use (at least until they relax things soon, but that'll always be slower and more energy hungry than just sticking with Safari on these devices).

Chrome if you want Google sucking up all your data for advertising purposes.

Firefox if you care about your privacy.
