Next Round`s On Spurs Is It?

Just under £16m profit from one player!

Must be on a par with Man City`s profits from Shaun W-Phillips Chelsea transfer.

If £18m is really the fee (and surely that must be made up of various incentives on performance, etc) then it really is an eyebrow raiser for somebody who didn`t even really look that special in the Championship a couple of years ago.

Much as I can`t stand Manchester United, it`s pretty good news I guess that the spine of their team (Ferdinand, Carrick, Rooney) is English.

The fee also includes a sell on clause for West Ham.

I Lol`d at Fergie saying `I have been a long time admirer of Carricks`. Oh yeah? How long? When you could have bought him for £2.5 million rather than 18 (probably twice as much as hes actually worth)?

Oh yeah: `OMFG!!!!! MANYOO ARE BUYING THE TITLE!!!!!!!!!!!111111111111!!!!!!! THEY ARE RUINING TEH FOOTBALL!!!!!!!!1` and so on.......

As a Utd fan I think we have overpaid but considering Andy Johnson has gone for 8.5million, and West Brom want 10million for Curtis Davies (actually turned down 8.5million aswell) then it looks like its stupid season in the transfer market again.

There aren`t many realistic alternatives in the market either, think he will do well for us though.

It`s okay anyway, we made most of the money to cover the fee on John Obi Mikel (forget 18months, 6months without him even doing a days training for us making a cool 13mil profit sounds good to me ;) )

That`s a fair point. That really does show how loopy things have become.

As a Sheffield United fan the prospect of having a £10m `war chest` filled me with excitement when we went up after years of shelling out the odd £250k. The reality is though that any half decent player goes for a few million these days (Claude Davis £3m, Rob Hulse £3m) and that £10m just isn`t a great deal now I guess.

Still rather be prudent rather than half-bankrupting the club mind you.

Again, i must declare ignorance on all matters football related, but Mourinho tends to disagree.
Quote:

Mourinho is impressed by the summer purchases of both Arsenal and United.

"United will improve a lot by having Michael Carrick. He`s a very, very good player and he will improve them," said the Chelsea boss

i think mourinho only praises those he doesn`t view as a threat - he saves his barbed comments for the likes of liverpool and barcelona.

i don`t know about the carrick sell on fee. west ham fans seem pretty sure about the clause but i guess that spurs would have had to declare this to the stock exchange when the £18.6m fee was agreed. got to agree with nickthegun aswell, why ferguson didn`t buy him two seasons ago is a bit of a joke - he did the same with ferdinand.

we`ll miss carrick, as he kept things ticking along but i think huddlestone is as good a like for like replacement as you`ll get (maybe not quality-wise.....yet).

only a rightback and left winger to go - maybe if we throw all the carrick money at ribery he`ll come ;)

Well at the risk of seeming like a PR rep for the BBC website, it would seem that Liverpool is the side that he doesn`t rate at all.

Liverpool not a threat- mourinho

I promise i`ll post some of my own opinions here, when i develop any!
