SVP bias ratings

LeeDavies (Competent) posted this on Sunday, 2nd July 2006, 10:33

I submitted a rating for a product of theirs which was a fairly lacklustre product and gave it 6/10 and they did not publish it.

Later I added the same review of the product but gave it 9/10 and lo and behold they published it even though it was an inaccurate rating.

Doesn`t look like a very accurate system if they only accept good ratings.

I`ve seen plenty of crappy reviews on SVP.

They`re usually accompanied by a note from customer services offering to sort out their problem, offer an exchange with no extra fees, etc.

If it`s a fairly recent purchase, you could try getting in touch with them.

I just felt it was not a very honest policy to only list ratings that make the product look good. The whole purpose of the rating system they have introduced is so that people can share their thoughts on products, not give everything a high rating in order for them to sell.

I`ve noticed a few bad reviews I`ve posted on Amazon don`t appear either, but the good ones seem to get on.

Haven`t posted on SVP so can`t comment, but their service is generally excellent.

I recently bought some absolutely s***e maxdiscs from their site. Two coasters out of the first 5 I used.

Wrote a review of how bad they were and it appeared on the site, I also gave the item 1 star out of 5.

2 days later it mysteriously vanished. I sent them an email asking why they removed my review and no reply.

Hi Lee

A customer brought my attention to your post, so I have registered here to reply.

There are only 3 reasons why a review would be not published or may be edited.

1) Actual or masked swearing.

2) If a customer places a bad review for a product that we can see they have not bought!

3) If someone reviews a product that they can`t get to work due to it being faulty or due to lack of expertise on their part. Common sense says that if a product is faulty or if you are using it wrongly you can`t review how well it functions. We have a message on the reviews form saying "Please do not use this form for support.
If you have any problems using a product, please contact us first on selas[at]ku.oc.pvs - we encourage you to review this item once we have helped you to make the most of it
.", which I think is very fair.

The reason we have to do number (2) is because some manufacturers /suppliers have been known to give negative reviews for their competitors products!

The reason we have to do number (3) is because some customers have been known to use the reviews facility in order to send us complaints about a product without allowing us to help with the problem first.
i.e "These DVD cases are rated 1 out of 10 because they were broken when they arrived."
That is not a useful or valid review and it is not the fastest way of getting the goods replaced.

If anyone has a review pulled that doesn`t fit into either 1, 2 or 3 then I want to know about it!
My email address is evets[at].ku.oc.pvs My mobile number is 07974 804001.

The fact that I am publishing these details shows how strongly I feel about this. In my business reputation counts for a lot and I feel that the reputation of SVP is higher than any other online retailer. I realise that`s a big claim but if you don`t aim for perfection then how can you expect to get close:)
I`d like to keep our reputation at the level I`ve achieved so far, so if anyone has a genuine issue - contact me.

Hi Steve, welcome to the site! SVP is an excellent company, have used you for aaaages and have never had a complaint.

Got to say though, maybe not a good thing to put your mobile number on here?

I always buy from SVP.
Their customer service is the best & they sort out any problems without any fuss.
I also like their 99p shipping offers.

The only think that I don`t like (NOT SVP`s FAULT) is that their couriers depot is 20 miles from our town, so to overcome this, I have it delivered to my work address.

There are a lot of companies selling media out there now so customer service has to be spot on.

Dealt with many and its a very close call between svp and bigpockets for offering the best.
