Iphone 4

1mills (Elite) posted this on Wednesday, 2nd March 2011, 13:32

Considering getting one at the moment.

Basically I`d made a choice to get an Ipod touch as seperate music player, purely because my HTC Desire battery life is horrendous when used as a music player aswell.

As I`ve already got a contract though at the moment, I`ve got the option of either having the money (which I will lose 40% on in tax etc) or can have an Iphone 4.

Basically would cost me about £300 effectively then for a 16gb one.

What people`s general opinions at this time on the Iphone 4 who`ve had it for a while. I only ever had the 2G and 3G iPhones.

The main thing I`m concerned about is the battery life. I would go with a Nano but the current ones just seem a bit too small for me in capacity and in actual size.

Gettin a Touch does seem a waste of time, when the WiFi and browsing capabilities will be just the same as my Desire that`s there anyway :s

I am going to Thailand for 3 weeks later in the year, so thinking a cheapo phone and a Touch would be more useful for me being out there.

I`d seen rumours thats Iphone 5 or whatever it`s going to be won`t be launched until more like September/October this year due to touch screen shortage or something.

I love mine, was a huge upgrade from a 2G.

Battery life, as an example, mine is on about 5% left atm, and it has spend 3 days 3 hours on standby, and 5 hours of usage (mostly playing Wolfensteign RPG).

I can see someone moving up from a 2G/3G thinking it`s great.
But I don`t consider it sufficiently better than the 3GS I`ve got.
Some providers are doing deals on 3GS which is worth considering.

All the deals I`ve seen for a 3Gs are about £399 for a 8gb one, which is pricey for something nearly two years old.

4g 16gb is "only" £500 in comparison.

As one of main uses will be as a music player, then I`d need to have 16gb minimum anyway.

Even when I was looking at taking out a contract a few months back the 3Gs contracts were ludicrous, althoughthat has probably changed now.

Definitely.
I was looking at O2, I think.
Probably them, as that`s who my wife is with.
Their 3GS deals were considerably cheaper than the 4G deals.

Also I don`t need the minutes on any contracts as I`ve got 600mins unlimited texts, unlimited internet (3GB limit) for £10 a month at the moment on a 12month contract, so any contract deals would be pointless for me, as on Iphones they are ludicrously priced anyway.

Much cheaper to buy the iPhone outright and then get a cheap deal I`ve found.

Most people go I can`t believe you`ll pay £500 for a phone. Then will pay £150 plus £35 a month for 2years on their contract :s

For months and months I just couldn`t justify getting one, but since I changed jobs and finally had that excuse, the iPhone 4 has been fantastic. I make calls on it, I browse online on it, I tweet on it, I Facebook on it, I Skype on it, I get all my e-mails, I read various forums, I listen to music, I take notes, I use the camera, I watch videos, I listen to the radio or podcasts, I Sky+ programs remotely...

In others words, it`s damn handy, even if it is a lot of money to shell out.

I bought mine outright Mills (£600 for the 32GB one).
Definitely works out cheaper in the long-run (12 months or 24 months) - especially since mine is mainly for data and I pay £5 a month for that with "3".

That`s the next debate, although could probably "get away" with a 16gb, I could probably do with a 32GB :D

If this helps (at all)...I have 2000 songs, 21 videos, 88 photos & 65 apps on mine....with 13.2GB free space (29.1GB capacity).
I thought 16GB might be a little `tight` for me - especially when you start adding large apps (like the Sat-Nav based ones).
