Free spyware protection

Anyone recommend properly free spyware/trojan protection?
Tried adaware, it just won`t work properly.
Gets so far through a detection, then completely freezes, forcing a forced reboot.
The rest say they offer free versions, but try and hit you with fees if you want to actually use the damned thing... :/

Seconded - and a link to the website here

EDIT: See, that`s what happens when the phone rings as you`re in the middle of doing something - someone else comes along and steals your thunder!

Had a major problem the other day with the Malwarrior virus - Spybot Search and destroy sorted it out brilliantly

I wouldn`t bother with ZoneAlarm/Iolo.com System Checkup (free download from zonealarm)

I ran it last night and it helpfully told me my PC was riddled with spyware, my internet didn`t work right, and my hard disk was failing, but didn`t tell me what to do about any of that. I expect that kind of diagnosis from one of the random pop up adverts but not from a proper company :(

Found a few other posts on internet about it to :(

Spybot. I`ve been using it since there were only about 13,000 spyware proggies listed on its database.

There are now well over 100,000 and counting with every update! :o
