Any MP3 players which take normal batteries?

Wedge G (Elite) posted this on Tuesday, 26th April 2005, 06:11

One of my friends is going on a charity hike in Cuba next year and said that she wanted an ipod (mini) to take with her so she didn`t get too bored. She then said she`d be camping out most nights so wouldn`t be abel to charge the unit so she would replace the batteries, which is a bit fo a problem with ipods!

Are there any mp3 players out there that store about 3/4GB worth of music but are powered by normal batteries that can be replaced as and when neccessary?

99% of hard-drive players take their own propriatery battery system. Mainly because powering the HDD takes more juice than a AA can pump out, so I think you are pretty much stuck.

The only solution would be to get a couple of cheap 1gb flash based players or an MP3 that takes swappable media cards.

The average lifespan for a AAA in a small form flash player is about 9 hours (for a premium battery, like duracell). So tell her to keep stocked up!

Something like these two should fit the bill. 1gb capacity, enough for about 250 songs. Just dont by an MPMan from Dixons. I know from experience that they are the biggest pieces of crap going.

Cuba seems a nice sunny place to be aren`t there any solar powered chargers of a reasonable size?

Edit: Just done a quick search, try this
