if they are as good as the old lineone packages then i would definately go for it. I was a lineone customer now, tiscali... have recently had an email from them offering a similar package...

it sounds good until you realise you can get 512kbs for £19.99 per month elsewhere.

And apparantly BT aren`t happy with tiscali calling this service Broadband as its so slow.

I use Tiscali, (256K for 20 quid a month). Not a bad service, never get problems connecting. Tiscali email can be poor though, very slow sometimes. And their support weren`t too helpful on the occation I had to call them.

Isn`t it still broadband whatever speed it runs at (as its employing ADSL technology) ?

Nildram offer 512k at £22.99 which I realise is a bit more... But your getting one of the best services there is available and a good speed!

Bit of an argument here as to what is broadband and whats not - generally accepted by the telecoms that broadband as a standard begins at 512/256. Argument is to do with the marketing generally - basically can you call a Ferrari if its a rebadged Fiesta.

It does seem like a clever marketing ploy, calling it broadband, as many novices won`t know the difference and just go for the cheapest.

I quite enjoy being able to download at 60K per second, I think it would be hell to go back to 56k now. Saying that, 2MB per second at uni during the "quiet spells" can`t really be beaten!

As for the recommendation, one of my dad`s mates has just got Tiscali installed.

It is the 256Kb upstream version (£20 a month, ish) and he is very happy with it.

Look on ADSLguide for reviews. As it turns out my ISP isn`t listed here but I`m happy enough with it.

Ive had the tiscali 512k package for abt 8 months now...altho I havent had any problems with connecting it is sometimes slow...and their billing methods are well lets say shambolic at best.
www.adsl.org.uk , as mentioned here in a previous post, has a message board for tiscali users, and if you read it you wouldn`t touch them with a very long barge pole, however forums only express the negative points of the service and not really the positive ones I find. I personally have had no problems with the service on a whole except billing...as the billing system happens whenever you least expect it..it doesnt come out every month from your bank..sometimes every 3 or maybe 1 or maybe 2..but if u make allowances for this then there is no problems.

If you could afford it thought I would go for Nildram, as they seem a more stable company, and have high speed tests.....thats who I shall be goin with once the Year contract runs out on Tiscali...
