In court papers filed by members of the music group, Collage, Bruno and Mark have been accused of copying the "rhythm, harmony, melody and structure" of the worldwide hit from their 1983 single Young Girls.
They claim Uptown Funk is "an obvious, strikingly and/or substantially similar copy” of their earlier work.

Sometimes these sound amazingly similar (Lady Gaga's Born This Way vs Madonna's Express Yourself), and then you get a track that sounds so unlike another one you wonder how they stand to win any kind of plaguerism claim whatsoever.
Pretty generic 80s funk track Young Girls:

I heard Mark Ronson saying a while ago after the Blurred Lines thing, that it could cause a lot of trouble, he said then he likes a lot of old funk stuff, so it would influence him, but he wouldn't knowingly copy stuff. Guess he should have kept his mouth shut ;)
I watched Frozen the other day for the first time, and one of the songs in that reminds me of Ash's Girl from Mars. Maybe it's just me, but I can't help but think if the dates they were released were switched, lawyers would be involved :(

Would be really funny if one of these groups suing for copying were sued by someone else for copying during their case...

It probably won't help that He had a single the year before called Young Girls.
There's an interesting TED talk that covers this kind of situation.
Creativity is a remix:

Korn recently spoke out who disapointed they were by a Sepultura album which ripped off "their" sound. Sepultura would prob argue it was a natural progression from their roots (no pun intended).
I suppose rock bands and rap acts like to slag each other, off get lawyers involved and there could be a backlash from fans ;)
