Page 1 of Jack FM going national!

I generally hate music radio stations, there are very few DJs I can remotely stand (I do love Tony Blackburn tho!), and the music output tends to make me channel hop a lot when I'm in the car.

And then I discovered Jack FM, which was just in the South (at least the specific version of it I listened to, I think Bristol had one too but that was slightly different? It was franchised if I recall), and the moment I got past Basingstoke when driving to London it was gone.

It had great playlists mixing classic rock and pop from the 70s to present day, you could be listening to Blondie one moment, Talking Heads the next, The Verve, etc, and best of all no tiresome bland DJ asking you to text in and tell you what your favourite Kinder egg toy was, or your favourite shade of anorak...

And then it became Sam FM (something about them not wanting to pay a franchise fee), replace Avon from one of Hale and Pace (I'd say the unfunny one, but I'm not sure which one that is), and all went very meh.

It's not been as good since it changed to Sam, that's for sure. Music not as good, and the links are nowhere near as clever/funny. I still have a Jack FM sticker in my car window - not behind the times at all. Not something I'd buy a new radio for TBH...

DAB is though.
5Live (in decent quality) 5Live extra, 4extra, Planet Rock, the whole range of Absolute stations etc.

Heh, it's more how awful my old radio is. The LCD is dying, it doesn't really support my old pre-lightning iPhone very well (in fact it's a horrible after-market hack that often makes it less useable) let alone my current one.

My trips back to London (sometimes monthly, sometimes every other month) now consist of sighing at Sam FM, and then channel hopping every time I hit a song I don't like or people are talking (far too often) or more often having to strain to listen to a podcast on my phone at it's full volume.

So yeah, more of an excuse to finally get rid of the thing (it's older and more decrepit than Snaps' PC!).
