What`s your most regretted purchase?

Jitendar Canth (Reviewer) posted this on Tuesday, 8th June 2004, 12:22

Listening to my old stuff the other day, I found Michael Jackson`s Dangerous. (The album that is) that I had bought on the day of release.

10 minutes of listening and I had a massive WTF moment. :o

What the hell was I thinking shelling out for that drivel.

So what`s everyone else ashamed of?
:)

I bought a CD by The Hidden Cameras called The Smell of Our Own (or something like that)

I thought it was another band, and got home to find it was a Canadian gay church collective who sang about penises.

Thankfully HMV let me take it back as an accidental purpose (I think they have sadly changed their return policy now)

Just found the Hidden Cameras` website www.musicismyboyfriend.com

There are songs about golden showers on there. Christ.

Two really stand out for me.

The first is the cassette album "Like Gangbusters" by the JoBoxers :o :
"You`ll be doooing the boxerbeat de-de-derrrrr" :/ .
My excuse is that I was only 11 or 12 at the time.

The second was a present for my dad when I was about the same age:
"I could be so good for you" cassette album by Dennis Waterman :D .
My dad was a big fan of Minder.
I can still picture his reaction of strained surprise and joy :( .

My cousin used to work in HMV and he said the two biggest return albums they ever had were the Stiltskin album (the one off the jeans ad) and the album by the woman who did `Im a bitch, im a lover, im a wife, im a lover....and so on`.

Apparently the Stiltskin album sounded like a bad Def Leppard cover band and the other one was just plain dogs***e (and, like a lot of one hit wonders, the album content was vastly different to the single so people get scared)

What im listening to (if youre interested)

I think 90% of the cd albums I`ve bought, I`ve regretted. I`m always sold on the singles they`ve bought out, only to find that they were the only best tracks on the album.

What also p***es me off, is that it says there`s something like 20 tracks on the cd, but half of them are just 2 second intro s***e.

One of the worst ever was Train - Drops of Jupiter, bought on the strength of the single with the same name.

A proper one track album!

90%?? That`s a hell of a lot of regrets! There are very few albums I have that I couldn`t sit and listen to from start to finish. The odd one here and there where there is an occasional poor track, but nothing more.

I disagree about intros. A well placed intro can MAKE an album. Anyway, give me quality over quantity any day. I`d rather have an 8 track masterpiece of 35 minutes than a 18 track pile of cr*p that runs for 80 minutes.

Damien Rice `O` My god that bored me to tears. a few good tracks at the start. but nothing special at all. Luckily I`m now the proud owner of Devandra Banharts new album, which is far better. As for The Hidden Cameras. They may talk about golden showers, but i think it aint half a good album to listen to, but i also like tHe Polyphonic Spree.
