Folks

I have seen the Same Complaint on Other Forums about Other Samsung HT-Q Series Players not just the HT-Q20

It looks as if the HT-Q Series of players are Fussy about what Recordable Media they Use / Play...You will need to find a type of Recordable Media that your Player likes and stick to them.

Of Course this means you will have to Transfer any Movies you have that will not play onto the New media ..."What a Pain"

Trial and Error seems the way.

hi i had the same problem and yes it is media related (solved the problem for me)! I used Phillips DVD+RW and DVD-R and the prohibited screen appears. And after i burn with Emtec DVD + R (1-4x certified) the dvd plays without problems. Quite astonishing because the hotline calls the problem a region code problem and this can`t be the case due to the fact that it is media related. I hope i could help you

Folks

Media was always the Likely cause after everything else was eliminated

And it is a common complaint with HT-Q Series Players

I take the Point that some worked and then the same Media wouldn`t ...But I have seen this Before ...I have Had Media on the Same Spindle that Will & Won`t Work

I put that down to the Quality of the Individual Media and slight Variances in Manufacturing

But as Confirmed by Forum Member SBM there are some that will work on a more consistent basis

It always was a case of Trial and Error...Still a Pain though

Although if I had Purchased a Player from what most People would agree was supposed to be a "Top End" Manufacturer ......I would Expect it`s Media Tolerance to be Much Better than That, And would Certainly Return it for a Refund and get a Player from a Different Manufacturer.

Also Considering how little the Hotline know about their Player it is possible it is an OEM product rather than Samsung Manufactured ...and if this is the Case then it could be made by Anyone.

I guess that if another Samsung HT-Q Series Player is Obtained then the Problem will Return

I have read the links and I dont think it is a media related problem. I have been playing about with the buttons on the remote when the disc prohibited sign appears and have found if you press stop when the message appaears and then press play, it will actually play the film. The only problem is that there is no sound and you are unable to skip chapters ect!!!
If this info helps anyone to find a way of playing these films then please share with me as it seems to be good money wasted on this system!

gianniteamturbo

That is Certainly Interesting Inormation

But that still could mean that the Player is still unable to Read the Information on the Disk Correctly...which still could be the Media....If it cannot Read the Index information it will not Play Correctly and this could also Explain the unable to Skip and the No sound

And Is is Possible by Pressing those Buttons Stop & Play after the Error Message you are Just overriding the Firmware detecting the Unreadble sectors

It may be worth Purchasing one of the Disks that SBM Mentions in His / Her Post

Quote:
Emtec DVD + R (1-4x certified) the dvd plays without problems

And transfer one of your Non Playing Movies onto it ...if it then plays it increases the Media argument ...if not then it Must be a Firmware issue

I see that others Have Contacted Samsung On this Matter and they apparently Say it is a "Region Coding Issue"..it may be worth asking them again ...Make sure you have a Back Up Disk with NO Region Coding at all or a Correct Region for the Player and if the Player Rejects it as it most Probably will then you can tell them Clearly it is NOT Region Coding.

Although I also see that others have Had Problems with DIVX on copied media ...As you probably Know There is NO region Coding on those Movies Anyway ...which increases the Chances of it being Media.....and Confirms Absolutely it is NOT a Region Coding Problem.

I have no other Ideas on this ..It is Either Media or Firmware or a Mixture of Both ...one thing I do not think it is , is The Multi Region Hack or Region Coding.

Lots to chew over on this matter

Well given all the information I cant figure out what it can be. I have tried 2 films on the same media and 1 worked and the other didnt.
Has anyone tried copying the dvds on a slower speed to see if this helps the matter. I would attempt this myself but im using my laptop as my pc has encountered problems. (no dvd writer).
If this angle has been tested then I will attempt to purchase the discs mentioned above and copy over to them.

Hi,

has anyone found a solution for this annoying problem? Recently I contacted Samsung-support regarding this problem. The guy told me that "if your able to play the DVD at other players, there must be something wrong with your ht-xq100 and it needs to be repaired". Quite weird answer...

Cheers,
