Wharfdale WDP-1210

RB (Harmless) posted this on Friday, 3rd February 2006, 11:32

Just bought one of these in the last week and the screen size of this machine for the price seemed very reasonable!

No contrast settings for screen that are obvious so only way of altering is with brightness level which can be a bit restrictive! Never had a portable before so nothing to compare with.

Anyone interested I have managed to make the machine multi-region.

Open disc tray (probably worse part of the machine - very clunky!!!)
On remote press numbers 8 1 3 2 8 - a Region heading should appear on screen
Press ENTER on remote and it should change the number from 1 - 6 and 9
(9 seems to be multi-region)
Close disc tray

Hope this works for you as it did for me!!

If anybody finds anything else about this machine then would be interested to find out - especially if it can play DIVX!! (If anyone can tell me how you can recognise a DIVX disc ie from file format I would be very thankful)

The eyes see, the mouth moves but Mr Brain has long since departed!

Hello,
Had one of these units for about 5 months now, found it to very good too.

I`d like to add:-
I don`t know about the Dvix but it plays many types of dvd media + / - r/rw , cd-r and cd rw.
As to files, it handles Jpegs, mpeg1 (vcd), svcd, regular music cds, mp3s and of course DVD movies.

I`ve noticed that it`s very tolerant of faulty/damaged disks, so disks that skip and jump or even refuse to work on other machines usually work just fine on this.

Besides the lack of AV input, the only other thing that bugs me is the lack of volume control on the remote - means you have to reach out with your hand ;)

Regards

Oops ! forgot the most important thing, thanks for the region over ride - Thanks again.

I got one of these last week but the region hack will not work for me.
Is it a newer model because it has a volume control on the remote and a contrast chnge option in the menu.

It`s bugging me that I can`t watch all my DVDs on it!

Hello Mattypark,
I have to come clean, I don`t have one of these units, mine is a Technosonic. They both look the same so I assumed the unit was just rebadged. Got mine from Toys R Us for £150.

I`ll have to look at the menu but I don`t recall seeing anything like display controls in there - it`s one of the things I miss, in fact, I remember now, when I press menu I get the menu / title screen of the dvd I`m playing. I`ll have to try it when the disk is out to see if there`s a difference.

Definitely no sound control on my remote - I`ve tried pressing button cominbinations to see if there is a way around this but no joy.

The instructions for converting to region free seem to work with my machine, I changed mine from region 2 to 9 then was able to play region 4 disks which I couldn`t before.

Bye for now and hope you`re able to solve your problems - Vincent0

Hello koolcoll,

Tried your region free instructions but it didn`t work on my Technosonic.

So it looks like my unit only looks like your unit, and that there have been some changes made.
(mine doesn`t have a volume control on the remote and when I press menu I only get the dvd menu page [ie what`s available on the disk/disk options/opening page of the dvd menu] not a screen control menu)

But the multi region instructions from RB work just fine.

Bye

Hello,
Can someone confirm that the 1210 has a volume control on the remote and when you press the menu button (on the remote or unit itself?) picture controls come up? - Thanks

I got mine last week from Argos, if you go to the Wharfdale site they say it is specially made for Argos only. I`ll try the Multiregion hack and let you know.
My remote has the 2 volume control buttons right at the bottom in the middle and if you press the menu button when no disk is in the player the setup menu will appear. if a disk is in the movie menu comes up if I remember rightly. Bought this to replace my broken Cyberhome L710 player ( see posting for info), its a bit basic in its commands and facilities but then it was half the price and its a 10" screen instead of 7".

Thanks Vitara.... where did the post go?

Vitara posted a message to say they have just bought the wharfdale 1210 and it has a volume control at the bottom centre of the remote and picture options on pressing menu when no disk is inserted.

So it is different to my Technosonic which doesn`t have these, and was dearer (£150), but I bought it about 6 months ago so I don`t feel too bad about the price, just the functions! ! ! !

Update - oops, there you are.

Update - I`ll try the menu button on the remote, let you know what happens.

Hi Vincent0

The post is on the end of a thread that started way back in 2003 but I couldn`t track it down last night, but found it on my home computer so here`s the title "Cyberhome LDV710 rebadged as MP Man DVL7" Its all about the cyberhome player not the Wharfdale. Just for info I got the Wharfdale from Argos for £129.99 in the latest sale it`s normally £149.99. Not had time to try the region hack but when I do I`ll post the results.
