Sky Question??

Anybody know how Sky detect whether your box is connected to a phone line with out you actually dialing anything??

They dont as such - If you order a PPV event it dials out to "bill it", if it cant get through line engaged or some skullduggery involving a PP3, it keeps the charge on file for when it does manage to get through to the Sky billing computers..

Its quite safe IMO to leave the Skybox off the BT line. :)

I never had my telephone line connected for a single day of my first 12 months, and had no problems. Granted I never used the interactive services and/or box office, but why give the skuzzers more money!

I had the phone line on my additional box unplugged for a few weeks and they sent me a reminder to plug it back in. I never used anything that would need the phone line, but somehow they knew!

At odd times Sky will try to contact your box via the phoneline, but as the post above states, unplugging it does not seem to be a real problem. However, second subs will be monitored closely to ensure BOTH boxes are connected permanently(not just 12 months) to prevent the cheaper cards being given to friends or sent abroad.

Occassionally the wife would plug it in to order games, maybe that helped convince them.

I haven`t had my phoneline plugged in for years.
Was a bit of a pain 2 weeks ago when I had a problem, which required an engineer, and I got billed for a boxing match I`d ordered in Nov 2001...... :/

The second SKY box issue is causing me problems though.
I`d like to get one,but having the second box plugged into a phone is a pain, and having to have BOTH plugged in is just so impractical it`s a non-starter.
Both phone-points are at diagonally opposite ends of their respective rooms and running cables would ruin the look of 2 freshly decorated, and wooden floored, rooms !

So until they get a bit more `realistic` with this issue, they ain`t getting any more money from me. :p
