Piracy badger to stop tracking cookies

bandicoot (Elite) posted this on Tuesday, 11th July 2017, 15:05

I installed Piracy badger for Chrome at the recommendation by Rob, and it has been working great for months, by stopping tracking cookies.

I went from over a thousand tracking cookies a week down to around 30. Which I clean out each week.

But this week something attacked Piracy badger and switched the chrome extension off somehow and would not go back on again. Plus its whole program screen was wiped out, no sliders, etc.

Hence I was back up to over a thousand cookies this week.

I had to remove Piracy badger and reinstate it checking the extention was working, and on the top right the little green and red lights were working again, protecting me from tracking.

Any ideas what caused this?

My guesses are...

  1. Corrupt data on your HDD from a crash or power outage (though with NTFS that's quite rare)
  2. Something dodgy on your PC nuked it (what AV do you use?)
  3. Chrome itself nuked that specific version for some reason, or Chrome updated and it became incompatible (though why it didn't auto-update I'm not sure)

Being using AVG (free) for years and all during privacy badger use, so do not think it was that.

Just must be one of those glitches you get on a computer occasionally .

Anyway, got it working ok again, so problem solved, even if we cannot find why it happened.
