Netflix has saved me around £54/month

enemyonpc (Elite) posted this on Saturday, 18th February 2012, 16:19

I decided to go with the General forum for this because, technically, it  covers TV/Films/PC/Consoles and i suppose the bargain forum.

I signed up for a lovefilm free trial subscription that ive mention in another thread because it included a free £20 Amazon voucher. Around the same time i decided to give Netflix a try too. I recieved 4 discs from Lovefilm and havent really bothered with it since. Netflix on the other hand is pretty amazing. We have it on the PS3 in the bedroom which i configured to hit the US version of Netflix, my sons 360 is also configured for the US version and the Media Centres in the front room my daughters bedroom set the Uk version. These are all running on the same £6/month account that i have. (i also have the iphone app). The Sky has barely been used since because anything the kids watch on it are fully available through Netflix and my wife and i have been watching US shows and movies streamed in HD. With Sky HD, multiroom and everything except sport i`m paying SKY roughly £60/month, Netflix is £6/month. A 90% saving for far better content seemed a no brainer so I cancelled the Sky yesterday as i`m out of contract and we`ll see how we cope without it.

Netflix streams very well after a couple of minutes of playing it jumps from High SD to high HD with no buffering and even when we have 3 systems running it at the same time the signal drops to high SD on all 3 and runs with no problems at all.

I know this sounds like a sales pitch but for £6/month unlimited with a free months trial i recommend everyone give this a shot. i`d also suggest giving the US version a try as it has a hell of a lot more content than the UK version which is still pretty great for the price.

Regards
Bryan

I`ll ask a guy I work with what speed internet he has, as he`s also been very impressed by it, he`s been catching up on 24, and various other TV shows and films. He runs it through his XBox 360.

Sorry mate, i should have mentioned that before. I`m on o2 BB through the landline and the Speedtest.net i just ran reckons i`m getting 8.45mbps down and 0.91mbps Up.

I`ve just been browsing through the tv shows of the US netflix and just about every US show is on there. 24, Lost, Buffy, Sopranoes, Simpsons, Family Guy, Tara, Breaking Bad and so on. Currently running seasons of shows aren`t there but i`m  happy to source those the same way i always do. I`ve also noticed that the films and shows come with the similar audio/subtitle options to DVD/Blu.

Netflix also claim to have a larger films library than Lovefilms. I`ve been tempted to join to sure up the 98% of shat on Freesat...

OK, we have Netflix, streaming through the PS3 and 360 too - so how do you configure it to give you the US version?

Nosh - I`m not sure about that claim, the library is massive but i couldn`t find Riddick after i watched Pitch Black and Iron Man wasn`t to be found after i spotted Iron Man 2.

Smurfette - It just takes a couple of minutes, have a look at the videos below. When i did ours i took  a photo of the original dns settings screen before i changed it, just incase.

For the 360:

Have tried this and it works but has anyone else who has tried it found that their Playstation keeps signing out of the network. I watched Season of the Witch with no problems but when I started replaying the first Uncharted I kept getting the message I had been signed out. It also happens when I`m only in the XMB too.

A no-brainer for you, because the content suits you.
And you already have the equipment to stream it in various rooms.
The content doesn`t suit me, and I`d have to buy hardware to stream it into the bedrooms.
I`m not knocking Netflix, I`m just saying it`s far from a replacement for SKY for many people.
