Anyone live in or near Sheffield...??

Andy_R (Elite) posted this on Wednesday, 2nd January 2008, 23:14

The wife & I are off to sunny Sheffield on Friday to visit my brother and sister-in-law. We`re off early so we can spend a few hours in Meadowhall and have a look at the sales. Has anyone been there these past few days? Any good offers?

We`re after some baby clothes. The missus has already got a `Take That baby grow!??!` from the Take That concert at the Manchester MEN we went to a few weeks ago. We`ve also got a few cute little things off our parents this Xmas. Where are the best places to go to for baby stuff?

I`m also after some casual shoes but I remember there being plenty of shoes shops from the previous times we`ve been there.....

:D

For practical rather than nice things, if they`re going to get sicked on and grown out of in the blink of an eye anyway, then there`s a big Primark in town, they probably have miniature clothes for pennies.:) The tram takes about 10 minutes to get to town and the station is over the bridge through Marks and Spencer. Actually there might be a Primark at Meadowhall now, I know there was supposed to be one coming before the lower mall got flooded.

I prefer town to Meadowhall in general, just because I don`t really like Meadowhell ;), but it`s probably not as convenient for just passing through.

Thats ok xfg....I`ll state from the babies very first day that if they`re sick on the newly purchased clothes then they`re out the door! :p

Nah....we go to Meadowhall as it`s right off J35 on the M1 and is easily accessible. To tell you the truth I think my brother mentioned going to the city centre on Saturday so might just window shop on Friday.

Thanks for your info.... :)

There`s also a Disney store in Meadowhall, btw.

There is indeed! We have one in Liverpool but it`s about a third of the size of the Meadowhall one. They usually have some bargains in there - I bought the missus a Tigger doll once for Valentines Day 2004 (Was £20...purchased for £5!!) - so will see if there is anything suitable for newborns.

You might also want to check out the Meadowhall Retail Park which is just around the corner from Meadowhall and is sign posted. It is just down from TGI Fridays. You leave Meadowhall as if you are getting on the motorway and then turn right before the motorway turn off, go past TGIs and a petrol station and the retail park is on your left - behind Centertainment and the Arena if you know it.

Good job you didn`t say you was off there Boxing Day. Apparently it took drivers 3 hours just to get in to the place, and they hadn`t even parked yet.

The car park which is massive, and on two levels was full from the moment it opened, that the cars had to use the over spill car park which is basically a small patch of grass.

I think it`s all quietened down now. :/

On the 28th I went a smart arse `locals` shortcut` way to Asda and got stuck in the Meadowhell traffic and so had to turn back and go the normal way. The missus was chuckling away as I effed and jeffed my way to Handsworth!

We went to the flicks to watch `I Am Legend` in that very cinema and tried to park in the car park but as it was 8pmish on a Saturday night it was full to the rafters. Why do the people there just park anywhere? The amount of car`s that was parked on the pavements was ridiculous....but`s that`s for another thread!! Anyway , we had to park in the Meadowhall Retail Park car park but it`s not too bad as it`s only an extra 1 minute walk!?!

Don`t know why I`m even mentioning all this as we didn`t even shop there!?! Earlier that day we went to Doncaster town center and scoured the shop`s there. No idea what the main indoor shopping center is called but we went there anyway. Got some really nice bargain`s for the forthcoming baby. I dipped my hand`s in my pocket and bought some Winnie The Pooh booties and an 8-in-1 baby suit (bib , baby grow , vest etc) and a few teddy bears.

Anyway , thanks for all your help and guidance. Much appreciated!

P.S. Oh incidentally we went to Meadowhall before meeting my brother and sister-in-law on the Friday and the car park was packed!! Took about 20 minutes to find a space but we found one. it was in the Pink car park near bay 42 to be precise. Very handy for `House Of Frasier`!!! >:(

Andy...

Welcome to the club my friend :)

Seroiusy right....when babies are that little, dont waste your money on overpriced baby clothes which will just get yacked on and pooed on.

Go to Tesco & Asda and buy all your baby grows and stuff from there. Their absolutley brilliant and dirt cheap. All the money you save put it toward their university/wedding fund. God knows they`ll need it ;)

________________________________________________
Companies that have p**sed me off so much that I will never use them again and I hope you dont either....
Jacks Fish & Chips of Cambridge ridiculously overpriced and overpackaged chips. £1.20 for a stupidly small portion of chips - they need to go up north for a good lesson in fish and chips
Alloy Bodies of Manchester - The Grand Daddy & Benchmark for shockingly poor customer service.
Capital Bank Leasing who are part of [B]BOS
& are f**ing useless & struggle to action the smallest request but are fantastically efficient at taking money out of my account
[B]Abbey National
Absolutely diabolical service - how hard is it to change £60 of coins into notes????
....more coming soon no doubt.....
