Going Shopping in NYC next week - any recommendations for ridonkeylous bargains??

NoveltyCondomHead (Elite) posted this on Tuesday, 30th October 2007, 17:43

I`m jumping the pond to buy up all the goodness the USA has to offer, and at $2.05 to £1 i`ll be laughing.

But other than electricals (ipods n the like) i`m struggling to find/search for any real decent alternative bargains. I do most of my shopping on the internet and pick it up over there - so if someone could direct me to a few sites- i`d be as happy as larry.

well that may be the rules... but they dont always abide by it, when we went as soon as they heard the Brit accents they asked if we were from England, and then automatically discounted... they also asked were we from London, and did we know the Queen!

I think you`ll find that the savings is 11% but it is well worth it it works out roughly as the sales tax you would have been charged on anything you see in the store (it`s a bit irritating that the price you see isn`t the one you pay in America) Macy`s is mainly for clothes though another place where you could get bargain clothes even cheaper that Macy`s is Century 21 right opposite the site of the World Trade Centre, good for coats and Jackets and designer clothing
One bit of advice get a one week mass transit card (Metrocard) it`s very cheap and it means unlimited travel on both underground and bus which the best way to travel around New York

the actual law in NY has changed, any item of clothing under the value of I think $130 is tax free anyway. And yep Macy`s card is 11%. Also if you can go the Woodbury Commons outlet. I hr away by bus cost $36 return you will save loads. I just came back a couple of weeks ago. Electricals try J&R and B&H. Century 21 is good bit like TK Maxx style shopping though.

Go to the New York Marriot marquious revolving bar in times sqr 48 floors up nice bar good view. Cocktails are okay though. Is quite expensive but you can some desert buffet for about $20 thats quite cool.

I`m contemplating buying a US motorbike and shipping it over.
Once you add in all the shipping costs + duty + VAT, it`s still a reasonably attractive proposition.
Of course, I work in the freight game too.
So not only should I get a good deal (cost) on the shipping, but I could be `creative` with the value on the customs declaration... ;)
