Anti-Semitism....Alive and Well in the 21st Century......

NoveltyCondomHead (Elite) posted this on Friday, 12th October 2007, 09:25

Before anyone starts - i`m a Liberal Jew. Up until a few months ago the only anti-semitism I have heard in my life was at school and some naive kids at college. I think that the British Press, Television and the Government are slightly biased towards the Islamic Middle East, but hey i`m not Israeli and I don`t have any affection for violence in any segment of the worlds population.

Recently i watched a doc on the new wave of Anti-Semitism (Racism) in the UK, attacks on Jews in Manchester, the Descecration of Jewish Graves all over the UK. I was midly shocked, but not surprised given the press on Israel recently.

Then a few weeks ago I overheard a conversation between two guys on a bus, "f**king Jews this, f**king Jews that, ruining the world". There are two things that wind me up, Anti-Semitism and Football. Especially as I`m a Chelsea Supporter. Before you think i`m changing the subject, let me continue.....the conversation was about Avram Grant, and the fact he wasn`t training with Chelsea because it was a Jewish Holiday. When I say Jewish Holiday, I mean the most important day in the Hebrew Calender "Yom Kippur" (The Day of Atonement). On this day, Jews atone for their sins, fast from sundown to sundown (25 hours without food and liquid) and spend the whole day asking for forgiveness - as you can imagine a pretty big deal.

As a Chelsea supporter I butted into the conversation and tried to explain - but after a few minutes of looking like I was about to get my head kicked in - I left the bus. Not without giving them some of my mind before I left.

Today I received an e-mail about JewWatch - this is a website determined to rubbish the Holocaust, to blame the Jews for societys ills and generally spout anti-semetic nonsense into the world. The worst thing is, if you type in "Jew" into Google it comes up as a sponsored link and at number three in the main section. What are we saying to the world - that it`s ok to be anti-semetic.

I`m sorry I just needed a bit of a rant. I`m liberal and believe in free speech, but I also believe in accuracy and truthfulness, in this century can`t we be the ones to say, enough is enough.

PS - there`s a petition to remove JewWatch from the listing here...

I have never understood anti-semitism.

I mean, obviously all prejudice is retarded, but anti-semitism seems ridiculously so. I mean, how would you even know who you had to hate. At least if you hate black people, you can tell straight off who you don`t like. But if you`re an anti-semite, you`re in real danger of meeting someone who`s a great laugh, only to find out later they`re a red sea pedestrian.

Surely, at that stage you`d have to question your prejudice.

Go that way, really fast. If something gets in your way, turn...

And those who dance will spin and turn,
And those who wait will wait no more,
And those who talk will hear the words,
And those who see will fade and die,
And those who laugh will surely fall,
And those who know will always feel their backs against the thin wall...

I think it`s shocking you felt you had to start your post by defending yourself. :(

Do a search on "jew" now. Seems that Google have taken notice.

I can only conclude from this, is that during the debate that you handed out your e-mail address to the low lives.

I consider myself an optimist, albeit an optimist with cynical tendencies and a dark side that Lucifer himself would find a little creepy. (Perhaps you've noticed.) You don't normally associate cynicism with an upbeat pov. But I have exactly that combination and will defend it.

I`m not an anti-semite, I hate all religions equally.

I`ll qualify me statement with the following: If you firstly classify yourself as a Jew/Muslim/Christian/Hindu etc then you are classifying your whole persona with a work(s) of fiction. Granted that person/people that wrote the specific holy book(s), and the people that initially started that religion, were very intelligent people. This however doesn`t mean what they say and more valid than other people. There is no evidence, whatever the religion, to back up their claims - You always have to take it on faith!

Over time most, if not all, religions have mutated to be used as another form of control. The few over the many. They manipulate culture to their own ends and persecute people that don`t conform, and the atheist is stuck.
