Cinemas.....grrrrr.....

bowfer (Elite) posted this on Tuesday, 8th August 2006, 13:11

Thought I`d share yesterday`s little gem with you.
I decided to take our 3.5 year old for her first trip to the cinema.
Took her into see `cars` as she had seen it advertised on the TV.
So we went to local cineworld and paid £9.30 :/ for the 12noon showing.
For what seemed like an eternity, there was no sign of the film.
Loads of adverts,loads of trailers.
Every one accompanied with "is this the film dad ?"
Honestly,it must have been close to 30 or 40 minutes of crap, then the film came on.
That was her attention span exhausted though.
Any flame of desire she had to see the film was snuffed out by adverts for the likes of DFS...

So we left the cinema and I demanded by money back.
Perplexed `does not compute` looks from the cashier were matched by the manager.
I quite clearly stated that I had not paid £9.30 to watch adverts,so I wanted our dosh back.
I got it,and we left.

That`s me and cinemas finished with, for good.

I hate cinemas. You pay a stupid amount to sit on an uncomfortable seat where your bum goes numb, you have stupid kids laughing a giggling and normally have someone munching popcorn in your ear. Also at my local cineworld the sound quality is laughable and the picture size never seems to fit on the area it is meant to. I don't see why they are so popular when you can easily watch a DVD in the comfort of your own home.

and 3.5 year olds constantly asking "is this the film yet" all the way through the adverts, that frankly are sometimes the best bit. :p

Dr 42%er.

It`s not easy being different. It`s not easy being cool....but somehow I manage....

I agree with you,but I wanted to introduce our daughter to the `cinema experience`.
When I was young,it was a big deal.
A real outing.

If my daughter remembers it in any way (she certainly hasn`t spoken about it since),all she will remember is seeing great big adverts. >:(

It`s a bloody joke.
They know you`re a captive audience, they deliberately mislead you with the start time and they show adverts targeted towards the adults that are there.
How the hell is DFS of any interest to a kid ?
I can let them float over me,but try telling a youngster to "hold on,it`ll be on soon". :/

I`ve sent a s***ty e-mail to cine world`s customer relations too.

Even worse, you pay over the odds for your ticket, sit down amongst the smelly chavs and people with mobile phones, and then on comes the condescending adverts that tell you...

"There`s nothing quite like watching (insert big release of the month here) on the big screen, but some people choose to watch an illegal copy..."

After you`ve paid for the bloody ticket!

Also, Bowfer... films generally start 20mins after the stated starting time. Of course, at that point it`s usually full up, which is why I go in the week when it`s relatively empty :D

Damn.. I haven`t been to the cinema since December, decide to go tonight, and then read this and remember everything bad about the experience.. brilliant timing..
I might cancel Superman tonight .. especially since when I went that last time (to see King Kong) me and my mates all had to move during the film as it was so uncomfortable sitting without a space next to you...
One of the lads was actually sweating with the pain of the seats..
ha ha ha..

That`s why there are no double features anymore because it`s all taken up by f***in half an hour of adverts.

I bought Lord of War sometime back and they stuck a Maltesers advert before the movie, and you can`t fast forward the f***er!!! >:(

If they start introducing un-skipable adverts then I`ll stop buying DVDs.

I know its all about the experience of going to the cinema and all that crap, but at the end of the day, apart from the odd few (mainly made by Peter Jackson now), Hollywood hardly make cinematic movies anymore, you can watch an excellent quality made TV show made by HBO, and get more enjoyment, than you would get at the cinema, and at half the price.

That`s a very good point actually.
I have several DVD`s featuring ads that cannot be skipped.
None of them allow the copyright warnings to be skipped. >:(
None of them allow the `FACT` adverts to be skipped. >:( >:( >:(

You could fast forward a VHS.

Progress ??

Hummmph.... :/
