Cheaper solution to the Philips Pronto

Smiler (Competent) posted this on Monday, 2nd October 2000, 23:11

Hi,

Like the look of the Philips Pronto, but dislike the look of the price? Well, there`s a much cheaper solution and also you get more functionality :)

http://www.pacificneotek.com/ offer omniremote, a piece of software which cost $20 which works on a Palm PDA.

Palm have just released a new model, the m100 which cost around £120. So for around £135 you can have a device to control everything as well as a nifty PDA.

Pity anyone who has bought this device :)

Regards

James

Ah, only problem is, unless you have a Palm III, you`ll need an extra IR add-on module, as the IR transmitter in every other palm is too weak to go more than 20cm or so (including the m100). Once you take into account the IR module (or the price of a Palm III outright) then you`re at pretty much the same price as the Pronto.

Although admittedly, you`d look pretty silly taking your remote control to a work meeting and trying to jot notes down on it ;-)
