Now wouldn`t that p*** off Everton fans....

I know it`s an outside chance but you never know...Liverpool are into the quarter finals of the Champions League now and they could win it.. However, if they did so, the winners don`t automatically qualify for the competition next year. So the holders could not even be in it.
If that happened, apparently the Football Association could step in and ask for Liverpool to be included in the competition. This would mean that the 4th spot in the league would have its Champions League spot replaced by a UEFA spot and Liverpool would qualify instead - even if we finish 5th and Everton finish 4th.
Already been accused of depriving them of European greatness before..

Sorry SJ, but for me Liverpool`s chances of winning the ECL are virtually nil. It`s between Juventus, AC Milan and Chelsea, with Bayern as an outside bet. Liverpool just don`t have the consistency.

I completely agree. To think of them as the best club in Europe would be laughable.
But they`ve just convincingly beaten Leverkusen twice (a team that won their group, beating Real Madrid convincingly in the process) and in reality are 3 matches away from it.
A couple of decent results and a game against Chelsea in the Final? Already outplayed them for a good while once this season (league, not cup..)
Like I said, unlikely but ya never know.....

Is this your way of trying to wind us up now you`ve resigned yourselves to finishing below us for a change? :p Thing is, whether you win (ha!) the CL or not, we never believed we would finish in the top 10, let alone the top 4. Therefore qualification for Europe in any event is a big big bonus considering the start we had to this season. I`m just happy we`ve shown the consistency on a shoestring budget to reach the dizzy heights of 4th and stay there for ages. Don`t forget we were actually 2nd at one point, albeit for a day, and were 3rd consistently from the start.

Go that way, really fast. If something gets in your way, turn...

And those who dance will spin and turn,
And those who wait will wait no more,
And those who talk will hear the words,
And those who see will fade and die,
And those who laugh will surely fall,
And those who know will always feel their backs against the thin wall...

Got to agree with you there...though it would be nice for us to finish 4th and the red s***e to finish in 5th with nothing and not qualify .. Moyes must be voted manager of the year with what he has done this season, on such a small budget and with a team who were favorites for relegation at the start of the season, he is the best manager in the premiership imo.

Mr Moyes will have serious competition from Iain Dowie. I`m not a Palace fan, but if they stay up, Dowie may just take the prize..

Reasons:

- Minimal budget
- A chairman who blocked new signings in the window
- Premiership survival when about a year ago they were looking over their shoulders at Division 2

I`m sure Ipswich were tipped to be relegated one season and dumbfounded the critics by finishing quite high up, not sure the next season went so swimmingly for them though! ;)

FFS when did the suits bring this in.
I was under the ,mistaken :) , impression that the winners of a major honour, UEFA cup / Champions League/ World Cup/ Euro 2*** automatically qualified for the following seasons tournament.
If this is the case then surely the World Cup / Euro winners should not qualify automatically for the next World Cup / Euro championship.

Everton have got more chance of finishing 3rd and stopping Man Utd or Arsenal get in than Liverpool have of winning the CL.
