I`m the father of the bride in September and I`m already s***ting bricks with the thought of giving a speech. I`m absolutely terrified of speaking in public. I was a nervous wreck after speaking at our 25th Anniversary and that was just in front of my family (around 24) so if any ex fathers of the bride want to send me thier speech please feel free to do so.

And good luck to you at the wedding.

Those sites tend to give you very little help.
I`ve tried a few.
The type of speeches they suggest are the sort you wouldn`t want to listen to yourself.
If you sit down and think about it,it`s easy enough.
There are umpteen books will give you guidelines as to the `format` of the speech.
You have to thank certain people etc.
Once you`re past that and into the `meat` of the speech, jokes about the groom`s type of work / hobbies / past indiscretions should be easy enough to come up with.
The best speeches I`ve seen have been very `loose`.

my advice is do lots of preparation. i had to do a best man`s speech and thought i would wing it.. it went pretty well but now i wish that i had spent more time on it,, .
look in smiths for a mag about weddings and being a best man.. i saw one last month, and its probably in the men`s lifestyle bit (not in the jazz mag section though!)
good luck!

The old `returning of the keys` skit always goes down a charm.

But not always with the Bride.

Trips to the video store for a quiet night in can be fun. But remember;

* Pick something everyone will like.

* Don`t be afraid to ask for assistance

* DO NOT peer through Mr T`s WINDOW on the WAY home, and LAUGH at him watching BRING IT ON alone with his trousers UNDONE!

Sympathy laughter is better than none.

I`ve seen best man speeches where it falls so uncomfortably silent, you can hear beads of best man sweat hitting the deck.

but good luck, OP.

Mitch Murray`s One-liners for Weddings - excellent book covering all you need to know whether you are the groom, best man, father of the bride etc etc. Should be available in most book stores.

Used the book as a guide and added a few personal touches and that was it, no problem. Printed it off and read through it a few times in the build up to the big day and more or less knew it off by heart.

Must admit I was s***ing a brick at the prospect of making a speech but when it came down to it I really enjoyed it. Looking back at the wedding video it lasted 12 minutes but the time seemed to fly in. Got a good few laughs along the way which also helped!!

Anyway good luck when it comes around.

Gordy
