Yeah, the media whore in me was a little disappointed that they didn`t credit me by name, but at least they mentioned the site (albiet in a tiny little box in the corner). That`s my fifteen minutes used up :)

Im not knocking the article in any way (I think its excellent), but this is the reason why magazine sales are down.

People like Chris are writing articles like this for basically free on an easily accessable medium.

There are more and more of these kinds of articles in FHM and the like, which shows you the quality of writing on the internet and makes you wonder what the point of buying the mags is.

Don`t they have to credit the writer and pay him for his work? They can`t just nick it, can they?

I wonder how long it will be before the magazines and other websites pick up on this and attempt to copy your work!

That`ll be about 2 months then!! Nice one Chris. ;)

They contacted me some time ago and asked if I could reproduce a number of the images in my articles for them to use in a two-page spread. I agreed as long as they credited the source. I was hoping for a name check, just because it would have been a nice thing to have, but technically they did stick to their end of the bargain (albeit with the smallest credit possible).

Looking back it was a lot of work for a little bit of exposure, as I had to redo all the captures at a higher res and get them to match exactly. Still, the articles have generated a fairly large number of page views. Conservative estimates (i.e. our stats system) put it at around 1/4 million, but that doesn`t include the peek traffic when they routinely fooked our server and they were switched to non-monitored HTML versions. I think the first article alone probably did about 1/4 million views, so all in all they were pretty successful.

I did get slightly worried when a US Government server accessed the article 26,000 times in a short period of time. I thought Lucas had set the Feds on me! ;)
