Page 1 of pop-up complaint, (again, sorry)

I realise that you need to place advertisements on your site to aid funding, but that new one advertising `From Hell` just takes the p***!

As the page loads, I click on the most recently updated thread, only to realise a pop-up add has got `under` my pointer, opening the advert and placing a cookie on my machine!

as a direct result of this, I am deliberately not going to buy `From Hell` but it doesn`t matter, as they got 2p when I clicked the ad

I agree, I know that they help keep sites like this running but popups are getting out of hand, especially on this site. I thought the "Behind Enemy Lines" popup was a bad idea and that put me off visiting for a while, but this is just as bad. Start reading the article then the bloody thing popups halfway through, just have a site full of popups and a link for dvd news, be easier.

Personaly I think it`s a small price to pay for a free site. Although I`ll agree that it is annoying as hell when you try to click on a link only to find out it`s covered by the pop-up add.

This topic has been covered several times in the past though so I don`t know what else you want RJS or Mark F to say!!!

These `in your face` ads are the only ones these days that pay serious money. And therefore the site is still here! Sorry, but please think of this when you get the pangs of annoyances building up!

Sometimes renting before buying is a good thing

Well I can`t really see what all the fuss is about when it pops up I just click the close button !!! End of !!!

The pop ups are annoying, but they only take a few seconds to cancel!

I wonder if, without the pop ups and you had to pay for the site, you`d still visit?

If you want to see annoying popups, go to any Dennis Publishing website. Then come back and see the difference. :)

This is less annoying than the freeserve popup was. Firstly it`s technically quite cool and more importantly clicking close does seem to keep it away (at least for quite a while).

I think I posted this tip the last time the subject of pop-ups was raised. What you want to do is change your browser settings so that it will prompt you when an active x control (ie Flash) is trying to launch. All you need do is click "no", and the problem goes. Of course, if you want to see the ad, click yes. This has saved me much bother.
