Linking an original PlayStation to a new TV

Mix Man (Elite) posted this on Thursday, 21st May 2020, 10:17

Was clearing out the garage yesterday and came across my old PS1 with assorted games. All that's in there with it is the power cable.

I've got an LG 65UK6750PLD (https://www.lg.com/uk/tvs/lg-65UK6750PLD) with various free USB and HDMI ports, along with the coloured component AV-in ports.

Was hoping that someone could kindly let me know what cables I'd need to set up the PS1 on the TV and also if the picture quality would be good enough on a TV this size?

Thanks in advance.

what version ps1, what outputs does that have? if you've got an old one, you can either use rf (worst, aerial lead)

the old ps1 also had composite 3 circular red, white, yellow? yellow video, the other 2 l and r audio, which would plug straight into those sockets on tv

or there was the multi out on ps1, which you could get a cable to go to

rf
composite

if your tv doesn't have scart that would be better than rf i think

you want compoiste, not component, the leads are similar, but component is 3 video lead, is better quality, but ps1 doesn't support it.

Thanks for the response, admars.

It's model SCPH-7502.

Mine has a parallel I/O, a serial I/O, and an AV multi out. I've also just found an RFU adapter that fits the AV multi out port (exactly the same adapter as this one: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Official-Sony-RFU-Adapter-SCPH-1122/dp/B00BU0KP7M/ref=sr_1_fkmr1_2?dchild=1&keywords=ps1+rfu+adapter+aerial&qid=1590060543&sr=8-2-fkmr1&tag=myrev09-21).

I've also got a 1mb (!) memory card in memory slot 1.

No scart on my TV. Here's a pic of the connections:

Does that help?

yes so you can use that adapter into the aeiral socket on back of your tv :) it may look grainy but should work if you tune tv into it

similar lead, multi av out on ps2 - then you can go to rf, scart, composite, or component depending on what inpit your tv has. p2 supported component - early models gave dvd playback a green tinge I seem to remember?

Yeeaahhh!

Thanks admars. Picture is not great - understandable - but the problem is the controllers are not that responsive.

My son is now trying to pass his licence on Gran Turismo and then I'm going to crack on with classic Space Invaders.

I wonder if this is TV lag?

If you want the picture to be a lot better you have to spend quite a bit of money on a modern upscaler unfortunately. :(
