wow, hadn't realised it was so old now! One of the kids mentioned today she wants one, obviously waits until just after Christmas :(  ithink she saw switch lite was "under £200" so thought her and her sister could pool their Christmas money.

So I then had to spend the afternoon looking at the different games, different versions of the console etc, to work out what they need...

...they seemed a bit upset/shocked/surprised when I said, they'd be better with the "proper" console, and by the time they got that, a couple of games, an extra controller we were looking at £400.

the other funny thing is, the tv in the back room where they spend their time on roblox on laptops, is a 24" CRT! I don't think the missus will give up the living room tv with her ps4 ;)

The funny thing is, is they've not shown much interest in ps4, so I wonder if that's cos there's been no ads for ps4 games, but on kids tv channels there are lots of Nintendo ads etc, so they think that's what they want :(

Got one for Max this year (youngest), and a couple of Mario-related games and he hasn't been off it. Hooking up to the TV is a pain as both HDMI slots are already taken, but we manage. Resolution blown up is comparable with the Wii, and having to pay extra for online was unexpected, but waaay cheaper then the bigger brother consoles at £17.99 for the year. We'll have to see if he'll get anything out of it before we buy it though.

I don't blame them! I know that there are some similar types of games on the PS4 and XBox to the sort you see a lot on Nintendo systems, but to me they just don't seem to have the same feels.

Kind of related, I loaded up Mario Kart 8 on the Wii U last night, and there were still people around to play with online!

MK8 on Switch is a must as is Mario Odyssey.
Zelda is still a classic and there's many more too.
Almost unlimited VFM from Mario Maker 2 too - there's the game, game creation and the astonishingly creative ones being created by users.
More recently, Metroid is amazing, but probably not for the girls.. :-)
Pete, the fee gets you retro games (have rose tinted glasses at the ready) and also backs up save game slots for the account too.

Given their back catalogue and the remarkably low cost compared to the big players in the same market, i can see it being a purchase in the near future

maybe I'll just get the gamecube down from the loft and they can play Donkey Konga :) I don't think I got any of the Mario games on it, maybe just paper mario? walking past CEX the other day in the windows there was one a Japanese RPG I'm pretty sure we have on sale for £65! I don't know a lot of the games I have as i remember picking up so many cheap on eBay, and from 2nd hand shops etc, before it turned retro ;)

I don't have any of the pokemon games for it, they seem to have held their price second hand not surprisingly :( at least if they spend £35 of the Christmas money burning holes in their pockets on a second hand game they'll understand a bit more.

Or, just boot missus out the living room, get minecraft for ps4, and I think I have at least one lego game from PlayStation Plus they can play :)

Missus and me would both like Zelda on the Switch, as we both did all the GC ones, I have GC Mario Kart and played Switch Mario Kart at a mate's a while ago, with another mate, that was good fun, lots of swearing, like good old days of the original one :)

I never got that into metroid on the GC, not sure why, i think i got annoyed turning into a ball and rolling around.

could be something to consider as a family purchase next Christmas :O

Donkey Konga is the best! The only problem I have with it is clapping can trigger your neighbours bongos. I feel like there should be a dial you can turn to reduce the sensitivity of it... wonder if anyone has done this already... 🤔

I have a few GC games which seem to be worth over £30 that the moment ebay have a no sellers fees weekend I'm going to put them on.

Metroid Dread is a return to 2D Metroid - à la Super Metroid.
Zelda, you can pump in 100+ hours in easily - still usually appears as 'best game ever' in most 'charts'.
Animal Crossing is huge too.
Switch games, especially first party ones, hold their prices ridiculously well.
I do think it's time to move from a 24" CRT though
