Gamecube. Is it really worth outlaying £99?

peteh (Competent) posted this on Saturday, 15th November 2003, 18:10

I`ve already got an Xbox and very happy with it. But the two types of game that it sadly lacks are the Pro Evo type footy game and the Resident Evil type game.

I notice that both are available on the Gamecube (yes I know it`s WE6 not Pro Evo) and also notice that there are some fantastic bundles out there now i.e. Gamecube + Extra Controller + Memory Card + Mario Kart + Star Wars something! + 4 Zelda Games. All this for only £99!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The missus cant stop playing Crash Bandicoot at the moment (she loves those type of games) and adhores the Resident Evil series from the PS1 days.

So my question is this to Gamecube owners or if you have played the Gamecube or just know people with one. Is it worth the outlay if I already have an Xbox as I am very tempted.

Many thanks

Pete

I would go for it if I was you. Though the 4 Zelda games is a bit gimmicky I think, being that three of the games are on the Zelda bonus disc which you get free anyway.

Hi,

I have a GameCube, and love Zelda, the new Star Wars game, and was tempted to get the Res Evil exclusives, but didn`t `cos I was too busy playing Zelda, and have plenty of unfinished quality games :) But I have Mario kart on the way.

I would say that for you as an XBox owner at the cheap GC price it is worth getting for the Zelda, Metroid, Mario games, and other exclusives.

Similarly, I was tempted to get an XBox for games like Halo, and KOTOR, but I don`t seem to have enough time to play what I have on the GC, so seems little point for me buying another console, for which I miss out on top titles due to timel

Hope that kinda helps!

Al

Owned a Gamecube since launch and always been happy with it. Makes a nice companion to either the Xbox or PS2.... alot of the games are nicely different IMO

Are the four Zelda games good (apologies for my ignorance). Is the Resident Evil series better Graphically, gameplay etc ?

Also is it easy to get hold of Winning Eleven 6 ? And is it all in Japanese?

Cheers

Pete

p.s. still cant beleive you get that much of a bundle for £99!

As far as I know the zelda bundle are old N64 games and nes games but I may be wrong. Having said that Zelda: Ocarina of Time is the best game I have ever played on any format I was completely imersed in the world.

WE6 Is only a JAP release and is all in Japanese, however if you search ebay people have changed all the team names and player names to the official teams and in English and will put them on a memory card for you. It`s worth it for Resident evil, mario and zelda aren`t to everyones tastes but it was the reason I bought a cube over X-box or PS2. If you think about it`s the price of three X-box games and you`re getting more than that.

Special Reserve had a deal including Mario Kart and Zelda:the Wind Waker for £109 but they`ve taken that off now :(

Toys r us are still doing game deals - its worth checking them out(kids games mostly though)

Game will let you mix and match deals for your console(My local one said they would switch the two star wars games for two own brand controllers, or one official controller
