Is it me or are there now more releases and re-releases of Metropolis than any other movie on DVD? Including Evil Dead...

I consider Metropolis to be a masterpiece and the more footage they find, the closer we get to Murnau`s original vision. I, for one, will buy this on Blu-ray when it comes out.

For great movies, I don`t mind double dipping and this is one of them where I really want the complete version.

From wiki

Quote:
On July 1, 2008, film experts in Berlin announced that a 16 mm reduction negative of the original premiere cut of the film, including almost all of the lost scenes, had been discovered in the archives of the Museo del Cine (film museum) in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

This is the closest rendition ever seen since the films 1927 Berlin premiere.

The Evil Dead re-releases are basically cash cows for Anchor Bay, or whoever owns the rights now, or the double dips where the studios withhold extras for future re-releases of their movie. This newly discovered footage is the most important discovery in the movie world.

I cannot wait to buy this, as well as the 1910 version of Frankenstein, which is soon to be released this year, as it`s the centenary of its original release.

I`ve only bought this movie 3 times before! :D

And yes, I`ll have to get this version too. My most recent was the 2001 restoration but I hate having anything in 4:3 these days - hopefully this one will go back to the original cinematic aspect ratio. :B

Have you got the Giorgio Moroder version? I had the VHS version, which was given away free by one of the film magazines that no longer exists, I think it was Neon, I`m not sure.

I had that same version from the same magazine no doubt! But no more - it had ceased playing long before DVD recorders came along, unfortunately! :(

But this will be far better. That clip sounds a lot better than the 2001 version as well. I know they both have the same score, but I assume it is a much larger orchestra because it really has a big sound about it. Should sound awesome on surround sound. 8)

I love Metropolis - its not Fritz Lang`s best film but its a classic of Sci-Fi cinema - i cant wait to buy it even if i do own it on VHS (in its different versions) and on DVD. I remember seeing a print of the film about 7 years ago and it had footage that i`ve never seen before and have yet to see on DVD so it`ll be interesting to see this film again.

I was talking about that the other day with a friend, Neon was the magazine :)

I didn`t know that the 1910 version of Frankenstein was going to be released -- that`s another one for the `definitely will buy` list!
