Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End (I saw it digitally projected)

admars (Elite) posted this on Thursday, 24th May 2007, 15:39

Just got back from seeing this, digitally projected at my local picture house cinema.

1st the nerdy stuff :)

first time I`ve seen a film digitally projected, wow, really impressed, must be good, and not emperors new clothes, `cos gf could see the difference to ;)

They showed Oceans 13 trailer, normally, then switched to digital for Pixar`s Ratatouille trailer, which looked almost 3d.

Pirates looked stunning, really really good. Reminded me of seeing Monsters Inc and being impressed by Sulley`s fur, with the rope, you could clearly see the strands etc :)

2 nd the film

It was very good, not as good as 1, but better than 2.

When I saw 1 at the cinema, I loved it. Saw 2, was disapointed, too much rubbish between the good action bits (I likened it to Spiderman 3 recently)

Watched 1 and 2 on dvd this week, 1 was still brilliant, 2 better than I remembered it being.

So mabe we enjoyed this, `cos we didn`t have such high hopes. It is a bit long at just under 3 hours, the 3rd quarter drags a bit afetr a great beginning.

won`t say too much, don`t want to spoil it, def worth seeing, and if you can see it normal or digital, go for digital :)

Yeah, I saw it in a digital screen too. Although my local cinema doesn`t project the trailers in digital, only the film, which really brings home just how dramatic the difference is because digital is so clear of any dirt and movement and, well, it`s just brilliant.

I thought the film was pretty great. I actually think they`re all pretty even quality wise, probably prefering the sequels because they`re less, eh, conventional in some ways.

how do you find out if your cinema is going to show it in digital or not?

I assume you`ve both been to DLP cinemas then?!?!

If so, where? I thought there were only two in the UK, one wof which I think was Leceister Square (or wherever they do the premiers :D )

My cinema (Cineworld in Edinburgh) has not long got a digital projector (they might even have two!). It`s clearly marked there is a digital presentation on the showtimes. Of course, it`s playing in 5 screens, only one is digital.

The first film I saw in digital was This is England, then Spider-Man 3 was the first "big" film.

Quality and detail wise it`s difficult to say what is better, but digital has no audio blips or cigarette burns of flickering or bumps. So yeah, digital wins :D

Mine was at Harbour Lights Picture House Southampton. In the weekly email i get from them they said only digital projector in Southampton.

As Chewie says, no slight flickering where the filmis worn out after has gone round 1/2 the cinemas in USA before being shipped over here ;)

Actually I was wondering, how are the films sent to the cinema? Is it on a hard drive, Blu-Ray/HD-Disc style disc, digital tape?

Heh, bunch of amateurs. I`ve actually watched a digital projected film in Warner Bros. HQ in their screening room, as well as in a standard cinema. We`ve had `em for years down here in Londinium. ;)

Excellant. Normally go over the road to Cineworld but will go there for the `experience` instead :)

Digital projection is all well and good, but you can`t polish a turd. From what I`ve read this is no better than the second one.

I`ve read the bad reviews, but those were the same people who thought the Star Wars prequels and Superman Returns were good, so I`m not going to take their views seriously.
