Dune - Which version to buy ??

shadowze (Competent) posted this on Monday, 26th November 2001, 12:30

Hi,
Does anyone know which is the best version to buy ?
When I first saw this film ( in the cinema ) the
cinema version I saw was longer than any video version I have seen since ( 10 mins or more removed )

Has anybody seen both versions that are on DVD ?
What are the differences

Currently on dvd in the UK are:

Dune: Theatrical Version (director approved).

Dune: TV ReEdit, about 30 minutes longer. Some footage removed, added, moved and censored for TV. This is only available in 4:3 Pan&Scan as it was made for US TV without directors approval.

Yep, don`t get the TV version.

Its longer but most of it is voiceover - terrible voiceover with cartooney drawings. Sure, there are a few restored scenes but the 4:3 and picture quality are naff.

Dune the mini-series is out now too.
