RE: The Abyss (2 disc special edition) under £10.00

Hmm Region 4 is un-cut
BUT
Is not anamorphic its a crappy 16:9 print on a 4:3 frame ( the way widescreen videos are )
So great if you have a 4:3 telly , for widescreen users you have to leave it
in 4:3 and use the TV`s zoom function to fill out the screen.

RE: Spiderman

Damn right , its a good film.

Right about the alley scene ....

Well the phrase "Its nippy out to-nite" , is brought new meaning.
hmm wet teeshirt ...

Thank you Centropy ,

<soapbox>
Shame on you Film Companies for Making Us wait ages for a UK release .... You guys wanna Stop copying . do GLOBAL releases.
Nobody will use P2P file sharing utils to download movies if you release films at the same time all over the planet

RE: DANSAI 852 - now transmitting a macrovison signal!!!

Got one myself , but have never noticed this behaviour
Weird!!

RE: whats the best dvd with macro disable and multi region ?

Hmm the Dansai 852 will play any disc you put in it. £100 @ tescos

Do NOT buy the Dansai 1010 , cant disable Macro :-(

RE: Wide Screen CON - Films that ain`t really widescreen

Ok , I think I know what you mean.
SO these are like the widescreen films released on Video ( only fill a little bit in the middle of the screen ) ( 4:3) display ?

I know that anamorphic fills the entire screen , its just that these ones a stretched really badly horizontally. ie everyone looks like a fat bastard.

Wide Screen CON - Films that ain`t really widescreen

Hi,
I recently bought a wide screen TV , I thought I would check out some of my DVD`s to see how they look but I came across a problem.

My copies of Tremors and Thing both say wide screen on the Box but they are really 16:9 picture printed onto a 4:3 screen - result when TV goes to wide screen mode everything is stretched across the screen.

The only way to play it properly is to use 4:3 and zoom into the picture until its fills the screen up.

Does anyone know of an on-line list that keeps track of these CON films , never seems to be mentioned in the reviews , surely it is illegal to market something by deception.
The Escape from New york is the same as well.

Does anyone else have any thoughts on this ?
I for one feel cheated , how about you

RE: Dansai DVD1010 or Dansai DVD852

I had the 1010 for all of one day I returned it when I discovered
the MACRO cannot be disabled
I got the 852 instead , its great :-)

RE: Did I make a good or bad decision.

I saw the model below that (28" version) in tesco`s for £500

RE: Dansai 852 or 1010

DO NOT BUY THE 1010
Reason:
Macrovision cannot be disabled :-(

RE: Dansai 852 or 1010

Yeah I tried a few other discs the anamophic ones filled the whole
screen , the 2.35:1 ones had bars on top and bottom ( correct )
But I have tried Blade - region 2 and its 16:9 ratio but has bars on top
and bottom is this correct ??? - I thought it should have filled the screen

RE: Dansai 852 or 1010

Hi,
I bought a 1010 yesterday and I am not sure about it yet
on Monday.
Reason :
I have a widescreen telly and some some weird reason the 1010
switches the tv to widescreen mode BUT still displays bars on the top as well as the bottom.
Has anyone else noticed this ?

RE: Current problem with Play?

The last 10 orders have ALL been screwed up by them.
It sends a reply e-mail with "credit card rejected" title , no problems with my credit card Just that play cant seem to set up an authorisation system correctly.

RESULT: Every time I order on-line I have to phone them up and get one of their monkeys to manually process it.

I mean they aren`t even smart enough to send a copy of the reject e-mail to one of their people to look into to ensure that it is not a system error.

RE: VCDs on the highstreet

Try checking out any local Markets , usually someone there is
selling these

RE: Anyone got a refund from scan.co.uk?

Guess we learn from mistakes .....
but their cheap prices are very tempting to the un-wary.

And if you read the propoganda and their website you might almost get
the impression that they actually give a F**K about their customers.
Well , actually they do care ( care about getting your money any way)

It`s a bit like the Ferengi
"Once they get their money NEVER give it back"

RE: This strikes me as a good deal ? Pre-order a GeForce4 ?

Not sure about this , seen something similar from Scan @ £86 + Vat
I think these are cut down versions , rumour has it that these arn`t muvh more powerfull than GTS GF2`s.

As regards the cheapness , Usually down to slower & cheaper memory chips on the board. - I know got stung last year with this one myself
Bought Radeon , thought it was Retail got OEM instead.

Retail memory timing 5.5Ns
OEM memory timing 6Ns

RE: Anyone got a refund from scan.co.uk?

It took a few days to work out exactly what was wrong and trying to get thru to their customer service to get a RMA is Damn difficult ....

RE: Adsl Price drop

Yep , the prices are dropping , I think I`ll give pipex a go
Free install - £30 a month going down to £23.44 in April
I`d buy that for a dollar :-)

RE: Anyone got a refund from scan.co.uk?

Yeah , they pocket the postage ( even though they send you duff gear )
nice of them isn`t it

RE: Anyone got a refund from scan.co.uk?

Yep , should only take about 3 months ( in my experience)

RE: PLAY 247 PROBLEM

They still keep screwing up my orders
Keep getting the Credit card declined e-mails every time I place an order
Result - I have to phone every order thru to get them to Manually debit my card. The card is OK but they cant seem to get their automated debit system to work properly.
Christ you think that someone would look into this at their end ( it has been going on for 3 months now )

RE: The Crow and The Corruptor for £6.99 each.

I would warn you that the Crow is in 4:3 aspect only
and the quality is a bit s***ty , pity cos its a great problem

Play 247 and their 24 hour dispatch

Has any one any views on how long it takes the in stock items
to be dispatched.

Of the 15 I have ordered only 5 were sent within 24 hours
The rest took considerably longer 7-10 days.

RE: xwave 1000 0r 2000 or scan 2000

Hi , I am a Scan owner I would would recommend you buy an LG 3000
They are ( internally ) the same player ( manufactured by TYT for everybody ), You DO NOT want to buy from Scan , customer service is non existant.
I am getting the LG for a present for my folks

Here is a link to the scan Support group - Lists all known TYT players
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Scan2000/database?method=reportRows&tbl=12

you may have to join group to view data ....

RE: NTSC 3.58 again

Your vendor is correct
3.58 is the Colour Burst frequency for NTSC ( Pal its 4.43 )
Ask to see the manual for the equipment , check to see
if it plays NTSC at the correct frame rate ( 60 Hz )

RE: Ghost in The Shell

I got a lend of the region 1 version
and it was 4X3 aspect , cant remember any extras though

RE: Play.com is better than you lot say!

Managed to get thru on the phone to-day
They are having problems with certain payment types
( thanks for informing me - NOT )

So 24 Hr dispatch turns out to be 96 hour dispatch

I guess we all are allowed to make the odd mistake , once in a while

Dune - Which version to buy ??

Hi,
Does anyone know which is the best version to buy ?
When I first saw this film ( in the cinema ) the
cinema version I saw was longer than any video version I have seen since ( 10 mins or more removed )

Has anybody seen both versions that are on DVD ?
What are the differences
