Mel Gibsons The Passion of the Christ has been certified by the BBFC uncut.
Also the BBFC indicate it HAS been subtitled. (Thank God!)

Yeah, I was shocked as well - expecting a 15 rating myself. Anyhow, from the look of the trailers it is fast becoming one of my most anticipated releases of 2004.

Released in cinemas 26 March...

How else was I supposed to put that it was one of my most anticipated films of 2004? :/

And I put "Released in cinemas 26 March..." as some people may not know the release date...

Now you don`t see that very often. Seriously, I`m looking forward to this movie. I personally feel it`s more than just a movie, it`s an article of (Mel Gibson`s) faith, and as such should be respected. He`s obviously (if you`ll pardon the phrase) passionate about the subject and I honestly think it`s high time a no-holds-barred account of The Passion was seen - especially in these cynical times. The brutality of the whole event used to be part and parcel of Easter celebrations at one time, but modern day Christianity has embraced everything that`s bland and to today`s youth Easter has become some bizarre ritual involving a rabbit handing out chocolate eggs rather than a celebration of the keystone of the Christian faith.

Now, I`m not a bible-thumper by any stretch of the imagination. I don`t ally myself to any particular strain of Christianity, but I do have my own simple faith which is my business and nobody else`s. I would hope that anyone who sees the movie might actually appreciate what He went through, and if they`re of a Christian persuasion perhaps have their own faith strengthened.

I`d hope people of other faiths might have the charity of spirit to view the film as an expression of somebody`s faith rather than as an instrument of bigotry and hatred. I`m sure the film was never intended that way. In any event, it would be best to actually view the film before coming to any conclusions.

Do not be alarmed. That strange sound is simply
my mind boggling.

Well said Mark, I totally agree with you. Looking forward to the DVD as it might be too much for me in the cinema, being squemish (how do you spell that?). Nicely put, Mark.

I`ll be there with the wife (who is a regular sunday churchgoer).

It does look like a stunning film. Pity about the subtitles though. There weren`t going to be any originally...I can see why they put them on.. to open it up to people who don`t know the story.. I was looking forward to just being a full on bystander and following the story by the visuals and internation of the aramaic and latin language (no different than watching your average shakespeare play) Ah well, DVD will be coming out with that option .
