Was it just me or is Goldmember just not funny?

sj (Elite) posted this on Wednesday, 8th January 2003, 19:57

Whel, watched it last night and thought it was so bad. It`s been a while since I`ve been so tempted to turn a film off before the end but, ooh, last night was close.
Seen it all before in the first two films and elsewhere - only far far better and funnier.
Sure, I laughed a few times and the scene beating up mini me was funny but there wasn`t one real belly laugh for me in the whole film.

Opinions?

I think its the weakest film as it is mostly old jokes and rehashes. But it still has its moments.

My girlfriend wanted to watch this in the cinema when it came out so like a mug I took her. After paying for the admission and sweets and drinks and stuff I was subjected to the most turgid film ever made!
I rented the first film out years ago and thought it was bad but read reviews that the second Austin Powers was miles better! I watched that in the cinema and thought that was pig swill!!
Michael Caine was wasted in this cack film and I thought he was wasted in Jaws:The Revenge!!! I would rather watch him in the Jaws film then this pile of doggy do! I`ve laughed out more often and regular whilst watching an episode of Eastenders!
I wouldnt dream of making my DVD collection look bad by buying any of these childish film`s!
I felt so ripped off and distraught after paying good money to watch this pants film that I nearly dumped my girlfriend there and then!
Stop this Austin Powers franchise right now! >:-(

P.S. Mike Myers is the Devil reincarnated!

Think he likes it actually Chewie. :p

I think the first one is the weakest (it got a big cult status on VHS), the second doesn`t live up to repeat viewings at all, and in my opinion the 3rd is the best. Myers is genius.

Well I must be weird (isn`t that vvveird??) as I laughed my head off at it, which really hurt.

Sure, some of the jokes were repeated, but it doesn`t try to hide that fact. The ending is a bit messed up but hell it`s a comedy, it`s not meant to be a display of fine acting. I enjoyed it as I did the other two films.

Out of all of them I think it is probably the best one for repeat viewings, though technically the first was probably the best as it`s more original.

PS. Andy R -great that you`re so passionate about it "I nearly dumped my girlfriend right there and then"

That my friend is comic genius :D
