R1 pulp fiction CE, Jackie Brown CE canadian?

erlryd (Competent) posted this on Wednesday, 21st August 2002, 00:44

Has anyone received R1 pulp fiction CE or Jackie brown CE from a Canadian retailer like cdwow etc?

The reason I`m asking it that I have bought several DVDs from Canadian sites that turned out to be different than the US releases.

Recently new legislation was passed in Canada requiring DVDs to have French language covers. And disks from universal like mulholland drive, and the man who wasn`t there have different covers in Canada. Also fire walk with me and most New Line releases.

Can anyone who have bought these disks from cdwow, futureent, dvdboxoffice, dvdimport, or play.com confirm if Pulp F and Jackie B have dodgy Canadian covers and/or different content or if they are identical to the US releases
Any info appreciated. Thanks

Not received my Pulp Fiction from DVD Soon yet - just got an update email stating it will be September now ..... bummer!

cdwow, futureent and play.com aren`t Canadian retailers per se, but I guess they may (partiacularly cdwow) source Canadian discs when the price is cheapest.

I got LoTR from DVDMode (Canadian), and it has a reversible cover - there`s some French on the English side, but not intrusive (IMO).

Go my Pulp Fiction from Play yesterday, and indeed it says `fiction pulpeuse` under the title in brackets. Since I take all my DVD`s out the packages and keep them in TDK sleeves in a CD box it doesn`t bother me.
I think CD-Wow are based in Hong Kong BTW, but as others have said they may well source their R1 stuff from Canada.

Pretty good DVDs, huh, Vince?

The first thing I noticed was that the DVDs were Canadian editions. Doesn`t bother me. Watched "Jackie" last night. Quint`s best show so far. Robert Forster is great - so glad QT cast him in such a high-profile `big` film. Wouldn`t mind a SE of "Alligator" from Anchor Bay at some point.

Did you buy the "Reservoir Dogs" DVD? What did you think of it?

Cheers,

Cortez

Got Jackie and Pulp this morning - no Dogs as yet. As the above poster says, packaging is a little filmsy, disappointing. Looks good though, if you can stand the dual-language text (I can). These are def Canadian R1s (from CDWOW).

you get what you pay for at the end of the day. I buy canadian disks from canadian retailers. Some covers do have french writing on them but i have to say the majority of them do not and i can stand the french writing as the actual disc itself is english
